About the Author
Gemma James is a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author of a blend of genres, from new adult suspense to dark erotic romance. She loves to explore the darker side of human nature in her fiction, and she’s morbidly curious about anything dark and edgy, from deviant sex to serial killers. Readers have described her stories as being “not for the faint of heart.”
She warns you to heed their words! Her playground isn’t full of rainbows and kittens, though she likes both. She lives in Oregon with her husband and their four children–three rambunctious UFC/wrestling-loving boys and one girl who steals everyone’s attention.

Now for the however. When I pre-ordered Rampant, the author had not included the following tiny bit of pertinent information; "RAMPANT is a new adult dark romance with disturbing themes and explicit content, including sexual scenes and violence that may offend some. Intended for mature audiences. Part two of the CONDEMNED series. This is not a stand-alone read, and it does have a cliffhanger! There will be at least THREE parts to this series. Approximately 46,000 words."
When I pre-ordered Rampant, I was under the impression (based upon the previous book description) that Rampant was book 2 of 2. Two books period. Not, "at least three parts." I do not like serials and I do not like cliffhangers. I purchased "Torrent" which was on sale at the same time that I pre-ordered "Rampant." I was fine with it being a two book story and I was also fine with the cliffhanger in Torrent because I was under the impression that everything would be wrapped up nicely in Rampant (book two). It was not. I feel like I was duped with a bait and switch. Sure, there is now a disclaimer but it was not there when I purchased books one and two.

At the beginning of Rampant we find out that Rafe is alive but he now has amnesia. He doesn't remember anything that occurred in the past 8 years (book one). So the reader gets to discover (again) along with Rafe this time what happened in Torrent (installment #1).

Rampant has a major cliffhanger ending. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the huge cliffhanger ending. Keep in mind I still thought that Rampant was book 2 of 2. "Rampant" simply reads like a vehicle to get to the next book. I will not be buying book three nor will I ever and I mean ever, pre-order another book from this author.
Alex's and Rafe's relationship 'takes a leap from a high mountain without a protection', meaning that everything is falling apart with a confusing future for them, the author really done it and this part was full of suspense and all kinds of emotions.
" I crossed my arms over my chest and clawed at my biceps, dug my nails in deep until all that penetrated was pain"
Page after page my heart couldn't calm down 'till I reached the last page and then once again I was on edge... cause this was a very blow-minding cliffhanger...
" Nighttime always hit hard, when the dark wee hours of morning choked me with loneliness. "
If you haven't start the series then you should really do it cause it's one of the kind roller-coaster of emotions. I can't wait to read the next part of the series!!
I honestly wasn't sure if I liked the first book in this series , and I hate serial books especially when they have "cliffhangers", but there I found myself reading chapter after chapter wanting to find if the bad guy got his comeuppance.
Instead I found myself thinking OMG..WTF..Cliffhanger!
I sat there thinking again ? And in the next moment I knew I HAD TO READ RAMPANT.
So now my review for the second book in this series, and let me just say Gemma James ,you got me, I'm freakin' hooked!
If you can't handle dark books ,then this book is NOT for you.
If you have an issue with violence, involving "rape"scenes, then again, this series is not for you. (So please , Ms. James warns her readers well...heck, I'm warning you)
This second book grabbed me even more, I really liked it, then I asked myself , am I as sick as some of these characters?
The answer is no absolutely not. But Ms. James has grabbed me by the throat and left me remembering her characters. And that my friends is what reading a good book means to me, thanks Gemma I am so a new fan, just wow, and yes I'm getting ready to read Fervent, hell I'm Lookin so forward to it, thanks you have done your job as an author, standing behind your books and having the courage to write this dark, hats off to you , you are awesome and I'm a forever fan.
P.S. I'm really hoping the hero and heroine get a HEA, I'm amazed at how invested you really get into these characters.
What is wrong with her??
This book follows book one's warning of DARK and GRITTY, and I loved every minute of it.
This book picks up where book one left off with Alex and Rafe, which isn't a good place.
It's so hard to give a good review without spoilers as this book has more plot going on than book one.
I'll just say, if things can get any worse for our characters, I don't know if my heart can take it.
What lengths will these characters go through just to find that small bit of light and comfort at the end of the tunnel.
These characters really give these feels for every situation.
These books are a MUST read.
At the time of this review book three is out, which I'm going to straight away.
Rafe and Alex go through a whole lot of turbulence in this book. I mean give the couple a break !!! In book 1 Zach had taken Alex and this book he goes crazy on her.And of course Alex loves Rafe. The Dad I feel has a more sinister role than is being projected. We get a hint of it in the Dad/Daughter scene, and the 8 years wiped out don't help Rafe at all. They're fumbling around in the unknown and I'm straight on diving into Fervent now !!
