Upon listening to Randy's 25th celebration album it isn't any wonder the man has amassed the
longevity and the friends that appear here on this album to help him celebrate his 25th year as a country music celebrity.
Each and every particpant shows their adoration in their vocals for being considered a friend as well as an invitee to share in the celebration with him.

I have to admit I was curious, and somewhat skeptical upon first learning about some of the biggest hits (and fan favorite) being done as duets would fair. I must say I am pleasently surprised at the freshness of each one. The pairing of artists, and the vocals are so well blended. That its like you're hearing the songs for the first time all over again !

"Forever, And Ever, Amen", with the Zac Brown Band, "Is It Still Over" with Carrie Underwood, "Promises" with Shelby Lynn, "He Walked On Water" with Kenny Chesney, "Diggin Up Bone s" with John Anderson. Each rendering is a highlight in and of itself. Put them all on one album and voila, you have a grand ole party!

As one music critic pointed out, what is surprising most of all about this album, is how each artist was allowed to put their own stamp on their selection. Not try to conform to Randy's style. I think that is what made them turn out so well. And sound so new!

Just about every new song on here could be a hit song, if radio would take a chance and play what gets released.

This album chronicals not only the impact of Randys contributions to counry music. But the influences he has had on many of todays new artists on the air waves.

Well done everyone!

You are to be congratulated Randy ,for yet another grand offering to the world of country music (and its fans) for the referbished pleasantries of some of your most loved songs , and the addition to some very good hit worthy new offerings

June 7 marks a special treat for Randy Travis fans. Not just an album of 17songs but a gift for every Randy Travis fan to savour. Two decades ago Randy released his award winning Duets album Heroes and Friends and now 21 years later, in fine vocal shape and joined by the biggest and best names in the industry, we have something special.
Fans familiar with the original `Few Old Country Boys' can enjoy a re-recording with Jamey Johnson and Randy who does his finest George Jones style phrasing (it's not actually GJ I do not think?). Although it lacks the opening dobro that worked so well on the original, this is a magnificent version. As a huge Jamey Johnson fan I had hoped for slightly more confident vocals from Jamey on this duet but maybe he is in awe of the great Randy who sings with much more passion on this one. Jamey picks it up a gear halfway through!
The album kicks off with the 100mph guitar, and vocals of Brad Paisley on `Everything And All' a fresh, original and unique track. It's like nothing a country artist has recorded before. It's got a catchy hook for a chorus that lesser artists would fail to handle.
The album is full of surprises. None more so than the reminder of just how great a vocalist Shelby Lynn is. While her career has found her stray from trad.country (much like her sister Alison Moorer) she is, at heart, a stunning country singer and the duet Promises is a fresh and beautiful remake of the hit Randy enjoyed years ago.
Just as one stunning track ends more shocking pleasures await. Who would have expected the delightful (in personality AND voice) Carrie Underwood to be singing a duet of `Is It Still Over' with Randy. Although this was always a personal favourite from R's early years, I never expected this to work as well as it does.

Prime Cuts: More Life (with Don Henley), Love Looks Good on You (with Kristen Chenoweth), Promises (with Shelby Lynne)

When Randy Travis asks on the album's penultimate track "Didn't we shine?" One cannot help but want to respond with a clarion call, "yes, absolutely yes." For the last quarter of a century, Travis has been the savior of country music per sec. Just when country music was wallowing in the post urban cowboy recession of tooth aching maudlin strings of the eighties, Travis comes along and light up the honky tonks. Bringing to the fore the good ol' fiddle and steel guitars over melodies that are engaging and palatable, country music owes much to Travis for such evergreens such as "Forever and Ever, Amen," "I Told You So" and "Three Wooden Crosses." "25th Anniversary" is a celebratory affair with Travis re-cutting 7 of his biggest hits and 10 new cuts. Save for a solo outing, all of the 17 tracks here are duets mostly with the current hitmakers of country music, a few country legends and a Broadway star (Kristen Chenoweth).

Surprisingly one of the best cuts here is the duet with Kristen Chenoweth. Chenoweth belies her Broadway background by offering a gorgeous understated yet affecting take on the gorgeously sentimental ballad "Love Looks Good on You." In fact, of all the duet partners Chenoweth's girlish sophisticated soprano perfectly complements Travis' sturdy twangy tenor. Another unexpected duet entry is Travis partnering with Eagles' Don Henley on "More Life." Written by Mike Reid and Rory Bourke, "More Life" excels because of its contemplative words over the simplistic yet powerful melody line. "T.I.M.E.
