He propels right and left, up and down--and he makes tight maneuvers around people and obstacles and through doorways. Refillable; they stay afloat for up to 2 weeks on one helium refill. Good value based on price and expected performance. The parts are lightweight plastic and therefore delicate. The instructions are clear and construction quite easy once the fish are filled with helium. The folks at a local Food Lion were kind enough to fill the Mylar fish envelopes, and one must be careful to avoid "flyaways" before the fish are completed. A party balloon tank ($20 at Wal Mart) is maintained on hand to periodically add helium. After two weeks, the envelopes retained sufficient helium that simply allowed removal of ballasting clay to regain neutral buoyancy. We were unable to deconflict the frequency for simultaneous operation of two fish. The instructions provide a "binding" procedure, but for some reason, that didn't work. Flying the fish is a different kind of challenge for those familiar with conventional RC airplanes. Despite the fish being quite large, indoor flying can be accomplished with practice and is a lot of fun. 8 year old twin boys are having no problem "swimming" in confined spaces and the battery run time is sufficient for nice long flights.

Could have been so cool. Bought for my sons birthday party. Husband put together following the poor instructions. The tape required to hold the bands in place has no stick to it, the rubber bands snapped and one of the remotes never worked. One did work for about an hour and it was really really cool. But... For $50.00 should have has a little more quality. No kids played with the balloons or remotes. The tape just fell off and they were useless expensive stationary balloons. Bumber... Could have been really neat.

OMG - There can be not one thing cooler than this on Amazon. Especially if your house has the 2 story foyer.

There is an extreme bit of figuring on how in the heck to put these things together. If they weren't so freakin cool, I would dock a star for that alone. They come in a flat box. You will need to get it SUPER SUPER SUPER filled up tight.
Be extra sure to have a strong ribbon and a real knot tied to the thing before leaving the store. We used Kroger and it was $.99. We asked how much was a refill before showing them the size of the thing. IT IS BIG!

Pay close attention to the instructions. They mostly suck, but in the back is a picture of all of the stickers and where they go. Essentially, you use 2 sided vinyl stickers (we supplemented with package tape) to secure pectoral and dorsal fins and the motorized ballast and track, and the hooks for the motor mount. After sticking everything on it, you do a little experimentation to determine how much ballast (putty) you will insert into the motorized-ballast on the fish.

Once you achieve neutral buoyancy (easier for SCUBA divers like us) you are ready to fly.

The onboard motor is charged via the remote. A hidden compartment reveals a short charging cable on the remote. Takes less the 15minutes to fully charge the thing - and it will swim maybe 45 minutes.

You can control the tail and the pitch. You can swim up or down or straight ahead, or circle the chandelier dangling in your
foyer!

Unfortunately, one of the controllers was somehow damaged on the first order. No worries - thanks to amazon's world class service the problem was immediately resolved. Soon the them to jaws was spelling doom for Nemo in our house.

Overall, awesome product. Assembly should be left to engineers, but if you screw it up - have a roll of packaging tape handy.

The instructions are the most terrible set of google-translate printed stuff you will ever see. The "stickies" used to attach everything to the balloons are awful and let go from the fish after a day. Filling with helium takes some finesse, as the instructions tell you to put too much in, so it then has to be weighted down with about 4x the clay they give you...it's nothing but frustration.

Find something else to give the kids, you will be in far too bad of a mood to enjoy this with them when you do finally get it working.

Very cheaply made, but that's expected for the price. It was a challenge to weight them properly - the slightest change makes a huge difference. I found the shark much easier to control than the fish, but I'm not sure why; maybe the different fin shape. They are hard to control in general, though - the slightest draft sends them flying. The shark stopped working after a month without using it. I left it plugged in so maybe it got overcharged. I didn't use the fish until after the shark stopped working, and both controllers affected the fish, so I wonder if it even would have been possible to control both at the same time.

We ordered this as my 11 year old son asked for it from Santa. We assembled it and it was very difficult to assemble-tape doesn't stick, hard to balance, etc but we got it together and it went out on Christmas eve. The fins started falling off immediately and it is a cheap and not long lasting toy. I wouldn't buy it again.

Overall, the fish both operate as advertised and we are very happy with them. We have operated both for about 30 minutes and no operational problems. However, we did have a few minor difficulties.

The box was mislabeled for one of the items (shark box labeled clown fish), but upon opening, the correct item (shark) was in the box.

2 of 4 clips for connecting the clown fish tail fin to motor were missing, but this was a very minor fix with scotch tape.

Also, specific fins (side and top) had minor positioning mislabeling, but placement of specific fins should be obvious and x's are in proper places.

Overall, we are happy. This was a good purchase.
