It's much thicker than I'd expected; all pages are Manila-folder material. The cover is very solid cardboard. While I can understand some concerns of bleed-thru, I think a good layer of gesso should solve that problem.
While I'm sure it will take me a while to fill this up, I'm so satisfied with the quality and price that I may pick up a couple more for the future!
I find that by treating the pages with gesso, it is better, but I don't want to have to do that to all the pages.
I have filled about a fourth of the journal, and am thinking I may have to abandon it for one with better quality paper.
On the positive, I love the design and the cover being blank. It's a good design that can be improved upon with better paper.
The paper is a nice medium/heavy weight. And while the description does not say exactly what weight it is, I would guess it to be about a 110 lb weight.
I love the large size page format. Mine arrived with no defects at all as mentioned by other reviewers. Mine was perfect.
I use a lot of water based mediums with my journaling so I gesso the pages before I begin any artwork as I want the colors to move and flow. I have found the journal paper to hold up very well and I've had no bleed through at all through the pages. This journal has held up to acrylic paints, water color brush markers, permanent markers, paint pens, spray inks and anything else I've thrown at it very well.
I have been so pleased with this journal that I've already bought 2 more to have on hand because I know I will fill the first one up very quickly. Truly my favorite art journal of all that I have. And I have many different sizes and types of art journals. This one totally inspires me.
Edit: The strap on my second one just snapped and I'm probably not even 10 pages into it. It's just not holding up like I hoped it would.
