I Like It, and I Can See the Possibilities
on April 10, 2013
I had several projects in mind that I wanted to try when I bought the Ranger Melt Art Pot. My experience so far has been with the UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) material that the pot is designed to work with. I have to say, the pot works perfectly with UTEE. UTEE is melted at the highest temperature setting on the pot. I had some concerns that there might be some scorching at the highest temperature, but I did not have any problem with this, and even let the melted UTEE sit in the pot for several minutes. I have also melted the UTEE with and without using the lid on the pot and the material melts quickly and is ready to use either way. I have also re-melted pieces I was unhappy with and left over scraps.
The biggest drawback with this Melting Pot is clean up - it takes some serious elbow grease to get that little pan clean after use. It took me a good ten minutes and half a roll of paper towels to get the product cleaned out of the pan. I was also disappointed that I could not use the pan liner I had purchased to use with the UTEE. I was hoping to save some wear and tear on my Melting Pot by using a pan liner, but the Pot cannot get hot enough to melt the UTEE with a liner. Another small issue to be aware of is that your melted materials can build up on and near the pour spout, and the spout is especially difficult to clean. I will also mention that the pot heats up quickly but as long as you are careful the only area that gets hot that you really come in contact with is the lid. I kept the pot temperature on high while cleaning the pot and didn't have any problem with burns.
I have tried using the clear and white UTEE with color mix-in's and pearl ex mica powders and I have been happy with the results. I know that these melting pots have many uses and can be used to melt wax and glue sticks and can be used as a miniature oven to bake small polymer clay projects. I have been using my Pot with a non-stick craft sheet and I recommend others do the same. I am just getting started using my Melt Pot for projects, and I am very happy with it overall. I can definitely see the possibilities.
Note: The Melt Art Pot that I have is not exactly the same as the one shown on the picture. The one I have comes in red and black packaging and includes a lid.
