The adapter needs to be powered to work so connect the included cable to the phone charger unit that is plugged in to an electrical socket ( like a iPhone charger or Android)

Got it for connecting PS4 to older computer monitor. Works very well! Helping everyone trying to do the same thing:
You will need:
1. This HDMI to VGA adapter
2. One male to male VGA cable
3 old phone charger with USB cord.
Connect HDMI port of the adapter to PS4. Connect VGA cable to adapter and then the monitor. Connect audio jack to adapter and then the monitor ( if it has built in speakers) or directly into the PS4 controller. The adapter needs to be powered to work so connect the included cable to the phone charger unit that is plugged in to an electrical socket ( like a iPhone charger or Android).
Power up the PS4 in SAFE MODE ( very important). Then once powered, change resolution to 420! The PS4 will automatically restart and everything will work as normal. Enjoy!

Very Nice Product! This adapter worked great right out of the box. Hooking up my RaspberryPi B+ to an older 15in VGA only monitor saved me from buying another new monitor. I wasn't too sure how to power it through the USB. Thought I might need another USB power supply, so I tried first plugging it in on one of the USB's on the RasPi. Worked like a charm! I plan on trying this adapter on a C.H.I.P $9 computer and a PINE64 $15 dollar computer that I'm backing on KickStarter. These old monitors are being thrown away every day, so one could pick up a few like I did at a garage sale. I bought 4 monitors from a couple different garage sales for a grand total of $15...
The little keyboard worked just fine on the first try also. It is a Rii Mini Wireless 2.4GHz Keyboard with Mouse Touchpad that I also bought here for $17.
I have not tried this adapter on anything else but the RaspberryPi, so I can't say how it will work. If it works as good as it does on the RasPi
then it is well worth the money
I highly recommend it for the RaspberryPi !!

HDMI to VGA adapter. Arrived in a timely fashion. I needed this device on weekends, so the period of use stretched over several weeks. First use was perfect. 2nd use, trouble making connections. Reseated all connections, everything worked. Just had to be careful not to put any tension on connections. Third use occasional connections, then blank screens. Final test, no image appeared on monitor ever, although laptop showed a connection to external monitor.

Contacted JEDirect. They promised a replacement product. I confirmed shipping address, waited 18 days. Nothing. If your device works, you'll be happy. If it doesn't work, based on my experience, the company will not make good. I don't know if mine was a lemon or not, but I would have been happy to try a second one and leave a positive review if the second had worked long-term. If I hear anything else from the company, I will update this review.

I almost tossed this in the trash after hooking it up to my ps3 via hdmi and to my monitor via VGA. I got an error on the screen that suggested a different setting but it was actually on that setting. Tried everything, nothing worked but the sound. And then I went into my ps3 display settings. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE DISPLAY SETTINGS IN THE PS3 TO ONLY 720! IT WILL NOT WORK IF ANY 1080 IS CHECKED! So i simply unchecked everything with that setting except the 720. Basically, it'll only read 720 OUT of your ps3. At least that's what happened in my case. Great seller and product! 10+ stars.

If you give PowerPoint or other presentations and your laptop does not have a VGA output, you cannot be too careful in being prepared. You know what I am saying - your speedy new laptop doesn't have VGA (like most now, it has only HDMI). You arrive at the room, and there is that older style VGA hookup and no HDMI! Your heart sinks as you begin to think through how to give your talk with NO slides.

This unit has been FANTASTIC in every such situation for me! I frequently speak and teach, usually with PowerPoint slides. My new laptop has HDMI video only - no VGA - but I find many places still use VGA for their ceiling-mounted projectors. I have used this adapter several times (maybe a dozen) and every time, the video output appears perfectly on screen. I feel completely confident with it!

I was even more impressed recently when I tried a friend's Belkin branded unit and the VGA showed only the right half of every slide! I figured it was the projector, but the minute I changed his adapter out for this one, the picture was perfect and as intended. Boy, was I impressed that my no-name adapter worked where the Belkin adapter had the picture all screwed up! After I finished my talk, I ordered him the same unit as a gift. He reported it works perfectly for him as well.

I have NO hesitation recommending this unit. It works perfectly as described and takes very little room in my laptop bag. In short, this product simply provides added security to any presenter who wants to avoid a last-minute PowerPoint or other presentation hookup problem!

P.S. Mine has held up just fine through many uses. Other reviewers said theirs "fell apart" but looking at the way this is made, I can't even figure out how that would be possible. If mine comes apart also, I will come back and update this review.

Nachdem ich an meinem PC einen älteren Monitor anschließen wollte, kam auch mein Sohn und wollte einen älteren Monitor als Zweitmonitor. Da sein PC auch zur neueren Generation gehört, hat die Grafikkarte (Nvidia GTX970) natürlich keinen VGA Eingang und somit musste auch hier ein Adapter her. Also hab ich kurz bei Amazon nachschaut und diesen Adapter gefunden und bestellt. Das Gerät kam ein paar Tage später an, ich habe alles angeschlossen, den PC neu gestartet und es läuft. Ich musste in Win10 noch ein paar Einstellungen vornehmen, wo welcher Monitor steht (rechts/links) und wie hoch die Grafikeinstellung bei dem alten Monitor sein soll, aber nach gut 2 Minuten war alles eingerichtet und es läuft einwandfrei.

Ich kann diesen Adapter zu 100% empfehlen, gerade wenn man einen älteren Monitor an einem neueren PC oder einer neueren Grafikkarte anschließen will, so wie ich es gemacht habe.

I bought this to connect my new laptop, which only has HDMI output, to my 2009 LG monitor, which only has VGA input. From the description it sounded like it was what I needed, but it simply didn't work. I tried the adaptor on a TV, using its VGA input and it did work, so the adaptor was working. I don't understand why it wouldn't work on the monitor, which I know to be in working order as it works with my other laptop. I think it would be useful if the description explained that it's unlikely to work on older monitors, though I'm not sure why if it successfully converts digital to analogue as it says. My 2-star rating is a reflection of my disappointment that it didn't live up to expectations.

Does Exactly What I Wanted

This was pretty cheap, arrived in a few days and did exactly what I wanted. I can now use my brand new PC that only has HDMI out ports with one of my old Monitors that only had the old style VGA cable attached and an audio in socket (your monitor will need that VGA cable attached, a VGA cable doesn't come with this device - this device provides a female socket for that cable to connect to and it does provide an audio cable to plug into your PC's audio out/headphone socket). Picture quality is very good and I was very pleasantly surprised by that because sometimes when I use various Video out adaptors the quality has been a little disappointing.
If you do use the sound socket to play through your screen/speakers instead of any built in PC/Laptop speakers then you may need to go into PC's Control Panel...Sound Settings and look for the setting to use external speakers instead of PC, but this is no different to what you may have needed to do for headphones or external speakers anyway.

The important part of this review is that this adapter works perfectly!! The adapter comes with a usb cable for power (not sure that it's needed seems to work for me without it) and a cable for audio (HDMI will get set as your primary audio automatically once you plug into HDMI slot - but I simply opened the sound settings in the system tray and set the speakers as the output and it was fine). Seems to be well made and with good materials - this is only my first day of use, but I don't see any obvious quality red flags. It arrived quickly and works as expected.
The rest of this is mostly in the hopes that the last 4 hours I've spent tearing my hair out might save someone else some bald spots - had a few worrying moments when I first plugged this in and my secondary (vga) monitor siad 'input not supported - so after lots of research and forums and reading - I fell upon the answer myself by accident - On the dell inspiron 5000 if you can only can see either the laptop or the monitor, but not both at the same time, open the intel hd Graphics control panel while the second display is plugged in, select the secondary display (mine was called HD TV), and change the refresh rate here (and possibly the resolution) - didn't seem to matter that I'd tried all this in the display settings! - changed the refresh rate and up popped my display! Some among you no doubt already knew all this but there might be one or two who might find it useful.

Initially i was really pleased with this project, it fixed my issue for a laptop that did not have a VGA connection point. But after a couple of months use, teh connector became less reliable, and degraded teh quality of teh image reaching my VDU. the VDU was fine, i checked by connecting to another computer.
So i would avoid this product, and order an alternative. It does not work beyond very short term, and therefore not fit for purpose. A couple of months use is not sufficient, even for a relatively low cost item.
