The knife I received was a little "splintery" in the handle, and so I just took a soft piece of pine wood and rubbed the handle of the knife to quickly burnish out the handle. I didn't want to use sandpaper, because the handle is lacquered and this is rather important since the knife is designed for cutting fish, and the handle will continually get wet. So if your handle has any sharp spots, I recommend you just find a piece of soft scrap wood, and rub it against the knife handle until it smooths out the burrs... That way, you don't harm the lacquered finish.
The sheath is made from very nice quality leather, and the stitching is very well done too. There is also a polymer insert inside the leather sheath that the blade slides into to provide and added layer of protection so the blade doesn't poke through the leather sheath. Very nice touch! If that weren't enough, Rapala also provided a little pull-through style ceramic sharpener. These are really personally not my thing, as I sharpen knives professionally, and strongly advise people don't use pull-through type sharpeners because most of them just ruin the knife... However, if you know nothing about sharpening, this little ceramic sharpener will do a passable job as long as you don't let the blade get very dull... This ceramic sharpener is merely meant for touch-ups, not full-blown sharpening.
So if you do a lot of fishing, and enjoy processing the fish you catch, this knife is a must! Very well made, and has been around long enough to establish itself as on of the best filet knives on the market. Highly recommended.
As I checked the knife, I was absolutely thrilled with the quality. My old knife was one of the best knives that I have ever owned (It was thrown into tackle boxes, shop drawers, under pickup truck seats, and in kitchen knife holder. It was used for butchering deer, cutting fish bait, filleting fish, and used in the kitchen - works great for slicing tomatoes, potato-chip thin), etc, The new one is almost a carbon copy of the old - and still comes with a leather case. AND, surprisingly, it arrived "sharp enough to shave!"
If you want an excellent all-around, fillet knife, I would highly recommend this one!
