Grindberg's writing is obviously a product of his years of practiced oratory from the pulpit: lyrical, succinct, and full of colorful language that narrates a story that is neither condescending nor rigid. Characters are immediately relatable, believable, and captivating, and Grindberg uses these sketches as the framework for his narrative, weaving and connecting these people together into a gripping story.
I enjoyed this book very much and will recommend it to my book club.
The story is about ordinary people, their relationships, and the rolls they play in their families and the small community where they live. Grindberg presents an uncomplicated set of characters to illustrate how, through their actions, each of them seek happiness and contentment.
Though not a genre I normally read for entertainment, I found this story to be evocative, causing me to engage in some self reflection. This novel will likely linger in my mind for days to come.
