When Hayden Roth was first introduced to us in the first three books of the Quantum series, I wasn't really sure what I was going to think of him. I knew he had deep seeded issues and that deep down he was probably a good guy, but I just wasn't sure he was going to ever be the man that Addison York needs - and not for the reasons he thought she didn't need him.
Both Hayden and Addie are complex people with less than stellar childhoods. They've known each other for over a decade and have worked together nearly as long. Addie has always loved Hayden, but he's always been so hands off that when he opens that door by kissing her at the Oscars, all bets are off and she's going to take what she wants - until he starts to think about what they are doing. He is convinced she can never be the woman he needs when it comes to his tastes in the bedroom, but is he underestimating the woman he has always coveted?
What I loved about both characters is that they were unfailingly honest. Addie never wavered from how much she loved Hayden (and telling him as much!) and he never waivered from his belief that they couldn't be together. It wasn't until they were both brutally honest with each other that the fog started to lift and the stumbling blocks that Hayden thought were there, really weren't and the belief that maybe they were more suited than he could have ever imagined began to take root.
This was an excellent addition to what was already a stellar series. I love that true to all Marie Force books, all of the other characters we love were a major part of this one. I can't wait for the next one so we can continue to learn about and love these complex Quantum characters!
This book begins where the last book in this series left off, right after the Academy Awards. As Hayden Roth stands to deliver his acceptance speech for best director, he does the most natural thing in the world, but it could have the potential to change his world forever as he knows it. He simply kisses the woman he desires most, Addison York for all of the world to see. Unfortunately, Addison is someone he cannot have. She has no idea the secrets he keeps and is convinced she will no longer feel the same about him, should she find out. Addison knows Hayden is keeping something from her and is determined to find out what it is. But will she be able to accept him for who he is once she finds out?
From start to finish this book is filled with off the charts chemistry. The raw emotions and growth each character experiences throughout this story is unbelievable. I absolutely loved Hayden and Addie. Their stubbornness, determination and memorable characteristics make them completely unforgettable. M.S. Force has out done herself with this story. I can't wait to find out what happens next to the Quantum characters! Book 5 cannot come out fast enough for me!
Hayden is a Hollywood superstar director, fresh off an Oscar win. Addie is his best friend's PA and the woman he loves but thinks he can't have. Hayden's view of himself, despite being the Hollywood hotshot that he is, isn't very good. He thinks he can't protect anyone and isn't good enough to be with anyone like Addie. Throw in his sexual kink and he takes himself out of the running for Addie, despite her throwing herself at him. Every time he pushes her away, he thinks it's for her own good. But what he ends up doing is hurting her repeatedly, something that he also swore he wouldn't do.
Addie has been in love with Hayden for ten years, but it's not until Hayden gives her a small opening on Oscar night that she decides to push him into exploring the chemistry they have between them, which is explosive. What Addie also discovers is a man who is haunted by how he grew up and refusing to "taint" what he sees as good despite how much he wears his feelings for her on his sleeve and discovering she could be everything he desires.
Hayden was his own worse enemy. Given what he went through as a child and still did, to a lesser extent, I could understand. But it was hard to see him push Addie away over and over again, especially after you knew how good they were with each other. Hayden was looking for acceptance, but he refused to fight when whatever the level of acceptance he was looking for wasn't given. It was heartbreaking, considering he wasn't that way professionally. Addie helped him realize he wasn't at all like his parents and he could have everything that he wanted without repeating the past.
Another stellar entry into this series.
