"Anthony is able to weave an engrossing tale blending dry humor and perceptive observations, all the while creating many distinctive voices just by using conversation." -- Jessica L

Now that the DEBUNKER TRILOGY is complete, Dennis present s new series – the RICE SHANNON PARANORMAL MYSTERY series – of which RATCATCHER, BE STILL is the first installment. If thee is any doubt as to the ability of Dennis to set a mood for mystery, his opening sentence dispels that: ‘Northern Ohio, 1967 Thousands of earthworms driven to the surface by a heavy spring rain clogged roads, driveways, and the sidewalk to Emily Laudicina’s home. Rice Channon tried to step around the lethargic clumps but ended up squashing them by twos and threes under the soles of his shoes. He thought the stink of them smelled like death. As Mrs. Laudicina held the door open and Rice dragged his slime-covered feet over the doormat before stepping inside, he watched as the ghost of a dead soldier hovered near the glass doors of the oak sideboard in the dining room. He had no doubt what it was.’
The story itself actually begins in 1970. ‘A beautiful atheist activist is savagely murdered in her home. Rice Channon, called the Ratcatcher by local law enforcement, is a police reporter who’s helped authorities find killers before. The cops say he has a unique gift for sniffing out the bad guys. Soon he's an unofficial part of the murder investigation. Not everyone is happy about it. Not the chief of police. Not the mayor. Not Rice’s editor. Rice runs head-on into a world of faithless clergy, government corruption, embezzlement, drugs, and urban riots. All the while, the spirit of the dead woman seems to be trying to tell him something. Or is it all in his head? Racial tensions are rising. The city feels ready to burst into flame. And the murderer is probably not one of the usual suspects. Angry cops. Hired killers. Embezzlers. And an ex-girlfriend Rice just can’t let go. If he’s lucky, his job is the only thing he’ll lose.’
Dennis has an uncanny ability to flesh out his chosen main characters – in this case reporter Rice Channon – and in doing so he gather momentum from the beginning of his tale through to the end - associated character s just seem to blossom because of his credibility. Though the DEBUNKER trilogy was a favorite, this new series seems to be an upward step for a writer consumed by his career. Watch him grow. Grady Harp, September 16

Dennis Anthony has created quite the mystery, although it ran through the usual mystery plot such as someone's been murdered and the hero of the story must track down the killer. However the way it's been written gives it a different feel and a lover of paranormal or mysteries would truly enjoy this book. Normally I can guess who did it at the beginning but no such luck this time which is good, meaning you enjoy reading till the end.
The reader meets Rice Channon aptly nicknamed 'The Ratcatcher' by local law enforcements. Rice's day job is as a police reporter who on previous occasions had helped the police find killers. He has a unique ability to sniff out the bad guys giving him an unofficial role on murderer investigations.
This is the first in the series and gives the feel of being quite a thrilling series, that is thoroughly enjoyable.
If you like a real story about real people with real problems, this is a book for you. The Supernatural aspects are very well done and contribute significantly to the story.
I could not put this book down exclamation
