I have owned this product now for about 4 months and it has been a great help to me in frothing milk for cappuccinos and lattes. I am a fairly serious cappucino junkie, Expobar machine, Mazzer mini grinder.

This product works best on my 20oz frothing pitcher, which I use most to prepare coffee drinks for 2-3 people. The clip holds well and it can be used unattended during the start of the steam process.

But, when I try to use it on my 12oz pitcher, it does not attach well because of the large clip on this thermometer. So it is less useful on this size.

In all, I love the analog display and the color coded areas. It very quickly gives you an assessment of how close you are to frothing (+140) temperature without having to read the display too closely.

Not perfect, but a good product.

Thermometer is essential for frothing. Unless you use same milk and and the same steam and milk temperature the most experience Batista will be 5-10 degrees off. Particularly temperature is important for latte art.
Before first use calibrate this thermometer (boiling water). You can calibrate with iced water but you more interested in 160-180 interval of temperature. Also clip is very nice as well as green -red range. I found this thermometer with help of lsdeal.com . Also I recommend to use: Rattleware 20-Ounce Latte Art Pitcher and Rattleware 58-Milimeter Round-Handled Tamper, Long Before buying tamper consult your manual for correct size.

I am new at espresso making, and having a decent thermometer is very helpful for learning to froth milk. Buy this and a decent frothing pitcher and you will be very impressed at how well you can froth milk, even on your first tries! (Assuming you have a decent machine, which is another issue entirely =)

I like it. However, for my favorite 12 oz pitcher the stem is a bit to long and the clip is to large. It is still usable but suits better a 20 oz pitcher.

Pros: The dial is very clear and convenient. There is a mark on it when to stop steaming - and voilá - the pointer really "lands" in the middle of the green zone indicating the optimal temperature.

Cons: It must be calibrated. Instructions are printed on the plastic stem cover sleave. Reticent as they are, they were partly damaged. It was quite confusing to read "Slip calibration tool onto stem with hex nut recess toward theromomete .... (missing)", especially because the tool is not included. It should be ordered separately Rattleware Thermometer Calibration Tool or in a set, for instance Rattleware 97110 5-Inch Thermometer Kit, Easy Steam S10. Yet, I guess, I managed to calibrate it without the tool, just by holding the clip and turning the dial.

I lost my trusty Starbucks thermometer to one careless flip of the switch of my garbage disposal unit. Bummer. I figured I'd see what else could replace it on Amazon, and landed on the Rattleware 5-Inch Easy Steam. While it has a large face thats easy to read and is accurate as far as I can tell, it's just too tall for either of my two 20-ounce milk frothing pitchers, so I had to send it back. If you use a larger pitcher, it may work fine, but for me, it wasn't the right fit.

I have the Rattleware 20-Ounce Latte Art Milk Frothing Pitcher, Rattleware 5-Inch Easy Steam S10, and the DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker. I find that the thermometer dial is too large for the particular combination of equipment that I am using. I do like the thermometer, but when I use the clip to keep it in place, it reduces the space for the steaming wand on the espresso maker and makes the process feel "cramped". I would recommend this for a wider mouth frothing pitcher unlike the one I purchased. Easy to read, and from what I can tell, accurate.

I'm trying to master the milk steaming with my Breville dual boiler machine, which has pretty agressive steam, so this has been helpful for me to knwo when to stop to not overdo the milk. Still working on the latte-art quality of foam, but i'm certain that without this thermometer, I would definitely go 'too far' every time.

I use this in my 20 oz. stainless steel milk frothing pitcher. It helps me make perfectly frothed milk every time. I stop frothing when the temp reaches between 150 and 155 degrees F. I know other reviews mentioned that this thermometer gets in the way, but to me, it doesn't seem to be in the way. I can definitely work around it, and it's definitely worth it. No more guessing, no more scalded milk.
