The quest for the last rave is on, the final storyline is afoot, and Haru and the gang are descending into a maze, following a (faint, to be sure) trail Haru believes was left by Shiba. But was it? And what will they find at the other end? I can't tell you the answer to that, but I can tell you that what they find there, and the events that transpire, make this into the best book (so far) in the series. Mashima has truly outdone himself with this one, which stands with the best volumes of such top-class series as Bleach and the early days of Case Closed. This is as good as it gets. **** ½
The first part of the big two-part battle takes place when Musica faces off against Ogre--but as he's not strong enough alone, he needs to find himself an ally. The one he finds is Reina, about the last he'd expect to come to his aid. I'm always impressed when a manga blindsides me with an emotional response I never saw coming, and this volume did it. I had thought the series was going to flag after the first story arc ended, but I was quite wrong, and I'm very happy about that. ****
