Kemper was facing his own demons as well but he gave Daphne the courage she needed to take a stand and she did....she was no longer the meek woman who would crap from her deadbeat boyfriend, she found her inner strength and made some changes in her life.
RAVEL was heartwrenching, two yearning souls found hope, happiness and a brighter future amdist all the pain, abuse and loss. Most importantly Kemper and Daphne found a HOME in each other.
Shari J. Ryan did a marvelous job. It's a must read so grab yourselves a copy whenever you get a chance.
Ms Ryan never disappoints with her multifaceted stories, intriguing characters with explosive chemistry and her ability at tackling very sensitive subject matters with honesty and empathy. This tale was so expertly crafted, moving sinuously between characters and flashback sequences, keeping me engaged and turning the pages to see what will happen next. I really cared for Daphne and Kemper. They made each other stronger and allowed each other to dream of possibilities.
This story took me on a roller coaster of emotions that were raw, yet hopeful, horrifying yet sweet. It also had intriguing secondary characters and several surprising plot twists, that make this an unforgettable journey.
Daphne is young she is only 23, the product of 2 crazy parents who never loved each other and never really showed her any love. Daphne has a boyfriend ( I really wouldn't call him that) Trent, he abuses her, he rapes her, and treats her like a dog ( a dog is treated better) Trent loves to control Daphne and like most abuse victims she lets him because its all she knows and she is afraid to leave him. Then one magical night in the bar she works in Kemper walks in, a very handsome marine, who just got home from another tour and is there to mourn the loss of his best friend/brother Rex, one simple gesture from Daphne, and one simple move from Kemper and these 2 people fall in love, something so easy, no pain involved.
The stuff that Trent does to Daphne had me on tears, abuse like that in not ok, and the fact that she took it for 3 years broke my heart, but yet every day there is a Daphne in the real world who is afraid to leave if you know a Daphne in real life, please get them help!
Kemper is amazing, the stuff he has seen and been through, and it has made him stronger, and when you realize why is so protective of Daphne, the ugly tears will come!
this is a must read book!
The book was predictable in some ways but also had some surprises. I didn’t expect “the connection” or for Trent to go that far. I loved seeing him get what he deserved in the end.
“I just (_____) for every woman who has ever been abused the way I have, but mostly it was for me.”
“First you (_____) and now you’re cooking meals. You’re amazing.”
