It's still going strong and I use it occasionally. No issues whatsoever. I put my Nikon D3200 on it and it works great.
About 5 yrs since I've purchased this here on Amazon and it's still going strong! I've taken it to a dozen photoshoots and it hasn't failed me. Not sure what shape it will be in another 3-5 yrs, but it has been worth the investment of just $25 and it has lasted this long.
Edit: Out of the blue, several months after writing this review, I was contacted by someone from Ravelli concerning my review. They apologized for the stiffness of the head, and offered 40% of what I paid for it back to me. I replied mentioning how much I loved their tripods, and asking about their higher end models. They responded with an explanation of their models, and even offered me 35% off when I was ready to buy. This is by far the best customer service I have ever received from an Amazon seller, and this secures my position of buying from Ravelli whenever I need a new tripod.
I'm re-doing the review after reading my original and realizing what I've gotten out of the product after revisiting my pictures.
First, photography is a hobby to me. I really enjoy astronomical photography (night sky).
This tripod has traveled with me (from NYC) to Northern MA, Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina. The Chile-Argentina trip was a long one, with different types of transport included. My tripod made it in and out in it's carry-on bag without issue. This is great, as I did not baby-it, and needed not to do so. I enjoyed traveling without being worried about it messing up (very big plus for this item).
The tripod has held steady (important in night sky photography where you leave the lens open for 10-20 seconds). Attached are some pictures takes with this tripod assistance. Any star-trail is not due to the tripod, but to just leaving the lens opened too long. The close-up moon was taken with the camera mounted to a small telescope that I mounted on the tripod... while it took some creativity, it got the job done.
I would definitely recommend this product, especially for someone traveling with more important things in mind than caring for equipment.
Also, I have to mention that the customer service is very good with this company. They reach out and answer questions quickly.
This is not a flashy or professional tripod, however, it is very reliable and gets the job done. It is not ball mount, but at the price really it is the best piece of equipment I've seen around.
Pros: The spider legs that stabilize the tripod from the main pole are great. You can adjust them so the tripod has a smaller footprint if you're in a tight spot which is super useful. It's light, but not flimsy at all. The leg locks are easy to use and feel secure. The swivel head is easy and straight forward.
Cons: The carrying case does not fit the tripod with the swivel head attached. That's kinda a bummer because who wants to disassemble the tripod every time you put it away. The locking ring on the center pole does scratch the paint if it moves at all while it's tightened. A couple of the knobs are a little uncomfortable and feel a little cheap. When flipped into portrait mode, the swivel head seems like it goes a bit too far and you end up slightly over-rotated (past-vertical).
Overall: Very nice for the money. I'm completely satisfied. If I'd wanted to address the issues I found with the unit I would've spent $100+ on a tripod. $20 for an occasional use item like this is perfectly reasonable.
- The quick attachment piece would be the same as the one I already had, meaning that I could leave this attached to two different cameras and switch the cameras easily. Why can't tripod manufacturers standardize the size and shape of these little device? Or at least sell a tripod with more than one quick release plate. They always seem to get lost and it would be nice to have a universal fit where you could have several replacements on hand. Having two made the decision easier to go with getting the same tripod again.
- Secondly, the tripod works well. This is not a heavy duty professional tripod, it is a lightweight tripod for everyday use at an affordable price. The value is there.
