I loved the dynamic that Ridley added to the story and the slight sexual tension. These books are all absolutely wonderful. They were a joy to read and so very different from anything I've read out there. They were reminiscent in ways of the Sleepy Hollow show that aired a year or two ago, except these books are far better! Each one is a thrill ride, with you rooting for Ireland and Noah (and maybe even Ridley and Rip, too). I loved how with each installment came a past story with prominent figures from American Literature, each with their own tragic love story. We got to know them intimately, while following Ireland and the gang while they battled darkness. We often saw the past love stories mirrored in present day with Ireland.
In short, these books are awesome! They are the perfect blend of paranormal and thriller, with a bit of literary feel woven into the stories. I highly recommend this series to a multitude of readers. They are fan-freaking-tastic and make me want to read more of Stacey Rourke!
Wow, what another awesome way to bring forth old legends and making them into reality. This author has a way with words that will keep you craving to read more and this story is no different. I love how the author brought my favorite poet, Edgar Allen Poe to life and the love of his life and the trials and tribulations leading up until the very end. The characters are phenomenal and easy to fall in love with. I love the humor that the author added to the book. I love how she could turn one scene scary or dramatic and then turn around in that same scene and have one of the characters break the scene by making a joke or something funny would happen to them. This is a must read for ages 18+ due to some of the violence and language, but one I highly recommend. I could go as far to say that it could actually almost be a stand alone story all by itself. This story has left me craving and itching for more.

“What does a monster do at night? They live.”
I was pleasantly surprised to see the return of characters that I had come to adore from the first book. Given that it was a different legend, I expected to have the originals disappear. However, I greatly respected how effortlessly the author wove the tales together. She seamlessly pulled Ireland (and her crew) into this book and I think it really helped to invest me in those initial moments. She also drew me in with the addition of Ridley and the connection he came to have with our fearless heroine.
“This angelic beauty was the elixir to his particular ailment. For that, he would be her slave … forevermore.”
Though I appreciated the writing and the ideas in Raven, I had a really hard time connecting to the story despite how much I loved certain aspects of it. I honestly found it to be a bit more scattered than the first book of the series. With scenes jumping quite often, it resulted in surface level dialogue and no real movement. Not only did I have a hard time with the current-day personalities, but the detail and scene building wasn’t up to par with her previous book and it left me wanting so much more.
“Yet, ye be warned, as the raven doth fly, for the rest to live … one must die.”
I wholeheartedly believe that readers will fall in love with Ireland, Noah, Rip, and even Ridley. There is something about the way Rourke writes them that creates these soft spots, leaving you feeling sympathy, empathy, sadness, and happiness right alongside them. They’re hard not to love and see where they will end up. Rourke also dropped a plethora of hints in Raven as to where she will be going in the next book, and I have to say that I am insanely curious to see where she takes it.
