Challenging, but fun!

Without spoiling anything, this escape puzzle was a fun challenge. It took 3 of us about 3 1/2 hours to complete. Between 2 of us, we figured out the clues at the end pretty quickly. The third person in our group just opens the answers and talked about how no one could possibly know what to do to solve the clues as she watched us. We proved her wrong, though. So the difficulty of the clues depends on individuals. I’m looking forward to trying one of the kids versions with my nephews! I will definitely buy more from this collection to try.

Okay...First, let me warn you that this puzzle is VERY DIFFICULT. And it's only rated a 2 out of 5 in level of difficulty. What makes it so difficult? Well, here's the list:
1. Dark and lack of contrasting colors. (Okay, I knew that when I chose this puzzle, so that's on me.)
2. Many, MANY pieces fit where they don't belong. Oy!
3. Instructions inside the box state that the actual puzzle picture is different from the image on the lid. Huh?

The good things? Ravensburger puzzles are very well-made. And the boxes are sturdy. Also, the "story" and mystery to solve in this puzzle are intriguing.

So, if you like to be rigorously challenged, you may very well love this puzzle and others like it. On the other hand, if you just like a normal, pleasant challenge, pass this one up, and look for something else. Seriously.

I just finished the Witch's Kitchen puzzle tonight and I loved it. I spent a few hours a day, for three days, working mostly alone, my husband helped assemble a little bit, and I solved the riddles on my own.

It was my first time doing a Ravensburger escape puzzle and I'm looking forward to doing more BUT I also do a lot of escape room games, treasure hunts, and "point and click" adventure video games with hidden objects, riddles and brain teasers. If that's not your thing, then this puzzle probably won't make a lot of sense to you.

It's still a lovely jigsaw, even without the "escape" riddle part of it, but it is not quite like other jigsaw puzzles.

1) Unlike some jigsaw puzzles, there are no letters or clues on the back, such as "AAAAAA" or "BBBBBB" etc, and it doesn't come with a poster to lay down on the table as a guide.

2) The picture on the box is not exactly the same as the picture in the completed puzzle, though it is close enough that I still found it very helpful.

3) The edge pieces are cut so they are interchangeable. The internal pieces are not this way, just the edges, so it makes assembling the border a challenge, but not impossible. The puzzle dimensions are on the box, which helps. I put together most of the border, but not all of it, and then started working on the inside for awhile.

A lot of people are posting that the solution is incorrect but I didn't have a problem with it. It didn't even occur to me that there was anything wrong until I came here to rate the puzzle and I read the other reviews.

I don't want to give answers or spoilers, so I'll just say this: The solution is to IDENTIFY the antidote. If you've done that, nothing else matters.

If you want a real challenge, this is the puzzle. I put together the DaVinci puzzle and other puzzles and this one is by far the hardest one I have done. Other puzzles take a few days at 4 hours per day, to put together. And they are fun, but this one is a challenge. It took two days to do the edges because you have to really pay attention. I love this puzzle and plan to do another.

I am a Ravensburger snob when it comes to puzzles and with very few exceptions only purchase their puzzles. I was excited to try the escape room puzzle. However, this was the first time ever that I have received a puzzle with missing pieces. Two pieces were missing. Fortunately, the missing pieces didn't impact our ability to solve the mysteries and "escape". The generally concept was good and the escape puzzles were good but overall, I can't say I would purchase another one of these puzzles.

First of all, this is a nice one for the Halloween season, but not so cliched as to be untouchable the rest of the year.

The "escape" code-breaking and number sequence puzzles that you can do after putting the jigsaw together are pretty simple, but you don't have to do them to enjoy this if you like the content of the picture itself. The final image is different than on the box in a few places, which is amusing, but the best thing is that the amount of details makes it relatively easy to assemble. I only resorted to shape matching for the last 10% or so of the pieces.

Yes, there are few false positive fits, but that's part of the fun...
