Product Certification (1)
Compact by Design is a new sustainability certification created by Amazon to identify products that, while they may not always look very different, have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products require less packaging and become more efficient to ship. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.
From the manufacturer
Ivory Shea Butter
Our ivory shea butter isn’t bleached, it is simply unrefined with no other additives. Like all of our other products: that's it! This is just straight-up, natural shea butter, but that doesn’t mean it’s simple. It’s packed full of fatty acids and vitamins A, E, and F. Vitamins A and E moisturize and repair damaged skin and hair, and vitamin F encourages rejuvenation and growth. That’s a lot of healing power in a smooth, easy to use butter.
Try it as a salve for issues like:
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Bug Bites
- Sunburn
- Wrinkles
- Minor Cuts
- Dry Hair and Breakage

At this point I would not recommend this product. The quality has shifted down as many recent reviews suggest.
I ordered a replacement depending on the quality I may update my review.
UPDATE:
I received my replacement and it's the original quality I expected before! The butter is soft and has the normal shea butter smell. I would recommend if you do order to check your batch before using in case you need to return it. I'm open to ordering again but will definitely be more wary in the future.
•Shea butter is Ivory always.
•Any shea butter that is gold in nature isn't pure in that it's got an added colorant to make it the tone.
• Shea butter is almost always creamy. Due to changes in temperature it can stiffen and become a hard butter. Shea butter is normally solid at room temperature and doesn't go rancid quickly. If temperature of a room is warm enough it can soften and melt.
• Depending on source of the shea butter it can have two different distinct scents. The west african coast sourced shea butter normally smells more unappealing than shea butter sourced from other areas of Africa. The shea butter from places not the west cost normally has a more appealing and attractive scent.
• Shea butter is a thick, heavy oil that is solid at room temperature. It has a similar texture to mango butter but isn't any where as hard. It is good for both hair and body.
• Shelf life of shea butter is at the very minimum one year though any jar I'd buy is normally gone well before that time span.
I don't have any complaints what so ever with this shea butter or any other seller's shea butter as the consistency is always the same.
Edit:
The way the shea butter is packaged is doing buyers a disservice. Once I opened the packaging I literally had to take the wooden knife that came with the butter and scrape the packaging as to not loose any of my butter. I immediately transferred the butter to a jar as leaving it in the plastic packaging can be disastrous when the butter begins to melt if the room temperature is too warm. Over all great buy, poor packaging.
I used this product for over a year before I sensed a noticeable change in texture and smell.
When I first brought it I was amazed at how soft and pliable the shea butter was. I used to buy my shea from the beauty supply or oil/incense shops. Y'all know the yellow "raw" shea butter loaded with shells and other debris. I would go through a number of jars to select one with the smell I could tolerate. It still smelled like burnt ass. But the stuff worked! My skin readily absorbed the shea butter. And my skin was baby soft. It evened out my complexion and lessened the look of my stretch marks. The inferior product just smelled so bad. I realized it may have been rancid.
Now I recognize what a quality shea butter looks and smells like. The product produces a mild nutty odor as expected. The smell disapates pretty quickly. I mix the product with a tropical smelling lotion because I like how it enhances the lotion. This one pound package seemed to last forever. I used it just about everyday except the hottest days in the summer. The butter tends to be very soft in the summer and hardens more in the winter. No matter the texture, rubbing it between your hands will melt it down to a nice consistency. As I mentioned after one year the product started to change to a more grainy texture that was still workable. The change in odor was much more nutty but still not as bad as the cheap shea butter typically found everywhere. Not even close. It is so affordable I felt it best I get a new package.
This shea butter is an excellent value and superior product. There is another seller that sells the same shea butter in a similar looking package for about $3-4 dollars more. They both are the same product. I brought the shea butter from the first seller and loved it! I saw the product offered by this seller for less and after reading the reviews decided to buy as a backup supply. I kid you not! Same product, slightly different wording on the package.
