I bought the size large at 85% off list, which seems like a super great deal as long as they fit. I checked the size charts and figured I was borderline L or XL. They arrived - they fit and are even big on me, but not so big that I wish for the medium. They don't look as svelte as the photo - they fit more like sweatpants because the insulation adds bulk. I could wear pants under these no problem. Measured flat, the waist is 18.5" and can be adjusted to about 17", less with a little sewing to take in some of the back elastic. The hip measurement is about 23" at the widest.
The pockets are nice - the front ones are lined with soft fleece, and there are two more on the back and two above the knee. The snaps and fasteners feel solid. The fabric is smooth with a dark grey woven texture - I sprayed it with water which beaded and easily brushed off. There is a thin batting type of insulation sandwiched between the outer material and the inner lining. At the bottom of the pant leg is a 5-6" zipper and inside is a separate elastic gathered snow cuff thing. The pants are long - probably at least 4" too long for me. I am 5'6" with short legs.
Very pleased with these for the price. I don't know how they will do long term but I ought to get my money's worth.
I've decided to cut out the inner snow cuff things and shorten the pants by removing a section at shin height and resewing them with the zippers at the outer side of the pant leg. I'm going to get some reflective ribbon and stitch it on there with a fastener so I can tuck in the width of the pant leg at the shin/ankle for biking. I think I am also going to clip out the batting insulation entirely and just layer the pants with long underwear/leggings as needed for cold. The insulation layer just adds unneeded bulk and stiffness. I figure this will make an ideal walking/biking pant solution for me for under $25. I see the price of the pants has shot back up now - my alternative option was buying a man's snow pant. There are good deals to be had.
I'd definitely buy these again.
