This is an extraordinary work. Great compositions, excellent performance. The composers have captured the essence of each of the characters portrayed in their music. Thumbs up!

MIGUEL ZENON IS WITHOUT DOUT A NEW ESTABLISHED TALENT, IN THIS RECORDING; "RAYUELA", IDEAS, MELODIES, HARMONIES, PERCUTION ARE DUBIOUS. LAURENT COQ MOST RE THINK HIS APROACH TO LATIN MUSIC IN PERSPECTIVE TO CONTEMPORARY JAZZ.

This is an absolutely gorgeous album and easily the best I've heard all year. I bought this album after seeing the group at the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival this past weekend. Before attending the set I was unsure what to expect- I knew of Miguel Zenon but not much about his music. I was completely floored by the end of the set and knew I had to buy the album. Since then I have been completely unable to put it down. Zenon's soft and romantic yet strong tone is evocative of Paul Desmond and Michael Brecker. He is a true modern expert of that instrument and he surrounds himself on this album with only the best. From the amazing cellist-trombonist Dana Leong (who stole the show at Newport) to Laurent Coq's Brubeck and Petrucciani influenced piano playing and the talented rhythms of Dan Weiss, this album does not disappoint. In the process it takes influences from around the world and combines them all into something uniquely beautiful. You seriously have to listen to this album if you are looking for something both fresh and captivating.
