Frequently Asked Questions
What is Chroma Lighting and where can I find out more about it?Chroma by Razer represents more than just multicolor, it opens up limitless personalization options. Whether it’s your favorite shade of green or your guild colors, Chroma gives you the freedom to decide. It could be one, three or even thirty-seven colors, with a spectrum of visual effects featuring 16.8 million colors; the possibilities are whatever you can imagine.
If I have other Chroma enabled devices, can I sync the lighting effects with my Blackwidow Chroma?Yes, you can. All Chroma enabled devices are equipped with inter-device color synchronization. With just one click of a button via Razer Synapse, your Razer Chroma enabled devices’ lighting effects will by synchronized. Note that the lighting effect you would like to sync has to be supported by both Razer Chroma devices individually.
Do I need software drivers to use the Razer BlackWidow Chroma? You may use the standard keyboard functions by simply plugging the Razer BlackWidow Chroma to any available USB port on your computer. However you will need to download the software and drivers in order to enable advanced features such as macro recording and profile settings.
Does the Razer BlackWidow Chroma have anti-ghosting capability? How about N-key rollover?Yes, the Razer BlackWidow Chroma features a gaming optimized key matrix that allows the recognition of up to six simultaneous key presses. N-key rollover (NKRO) only works with a direct connection to a native PS/2 port on the computer which provides for other limitations that USB overcomes. The Razer BlackWidow Chroma’s gaming optimized key matrix serves a similar purpose while using an ordinary USB port.
What are the 5 extra gaming buttons used for? These are dedicated keys on the keyboard specifically designed to bind macros to or to reprogram into specific functions required by the user. Macros enable a user to program one button on a peripheral to perform a string of timed commands, whenever the button is pressed.
Will my Razer USB PC product work on a console (XB1 , PS4, etc)? It has USB ports. Our PC USB products are meant for PC use only and we do not support using them on a PlayStation 4 or XBox One console.

I just received this Friday, June 16th, 2017 so I've only had it a few days. So far, I absolutely love the new yellow switches that Razer developed. I prefer a short keystroke with minimal pressure needed to press the keys down (both for typing and for gaming), and this keyboard has an almost perfect keystroke for me.
I've owned the original Razer BlackWidow (with Cherry MX Blue switches), as well as a Das Keyboard Professional (with Cherry MX Brown switches). This new BlackWidow Chroma V2 with Razer's yellow switches is much better. The original BlackWidow with its Cherry MX Blue switches sounded like an old 1950's typewriter, and people on TeamSpeak would complain about the noise and mute me. The Das Keyboard Professional with its Cherry MX Brown switches was much quieter, however the keystroke with those Cherry MX switches was so long that I often didn't press the keys down hard enough to activate them, and that was obnoxious when typing. Thus far I am not having that issue with this keyboard.
Customizing the lighting isn't really the reason I purchased this keyboard, although it is a nice bonus. I was able to customize which keys were which colors, and that allowed me to color-code the keys by function. I've attached a picture of what it currently looks like. Color-coding they keys like this makes it super easy to see which keys are which. I was having trouble with accidentally pressing the Caps Lock key while typing, and then I added the purple color and made the Caps Lock light blue so that it was easy to see it, and so far I haven't accidentally hit the Caps Lock key while typing again.
Apparently Razer has Chroma integrations for some games that allow them to control the lighting effects on the keyboard. Supposedly Slack (a popular chat and team collaboration app) has one as well, however Razer Synapse doesn't seem to recognize Slack. The Razer test app worked fine, so I figure the issue must be with Slack itself. I have yet to test it on any games that are supported (I only have 3 that are on Razer's list, and don't usually play them anymore).
All of that being said, the style and spacing of the keys on this BlackWidow Chroma V2 is taking some time to get used to. The keys are very thin on top (presumably to allow as much light to pass between the keys as possible) which makes them feel a little odd, and since the size and shape of the keys is different than what I'm used to I often find myself pressing the wrong key. I imagine I will get used to it over the next week or two, and this is not much of a downside (adjusting to a new keyboard always takes a bit of time).
-Update-
(6-19-2017)
Beginning of day 4, and the red LEDs have started to go out on the number pad. Attaching a second picture showing the current color configuration on the screen (with a grayed-out "Apply" button), and the current state of the colors on the keyboard. Play close attention to the number pad in the lower-right.

I wasn't even fretting it at that point. Then I had to deal with their customer support.
They stated that the replacement would take 5-7 business days after receiving my defective keyboard.
I waited until the 8th business day to reach out and ask for an update.
They apologized, advised they'd escalate it to their RMA department. I waited another day.
Finally I hear back, oh, it'll be another 4-7 business days because we didn't get your keyboard for 3 days after the shipping department received it?
What? - Just send me a replacement?
But nah.
I really liked the keyboard, right now I'm using a Corsair K70 instead. I'm willing to bet if this keyboard took a dump, Corsair would have replaced it no problem.
Instead I get to wait even longer... Glad I followed up or they might have forgotten about me completely.
They received my return on 9/11/17.
Read their response below when I asked for an update.

Hope all is well and you have an awesome day ahead."
Wut?
There's something to be said about razer orange switches when compared to cherry brown. Orange felt not only smoother, but softer when letting go fo the switch. After my hours of testing i started to notice that when you let up on a cherry brown, it feels lose and little awkward, but the oranges were sturdy yet made less noise when aggressively un-pressing a key. Although they felt NEARLY identical, the oranges both times I tested felt solid and smooth, with just the right amount of softness to minimize noise and maximize comfort.
Originally i set out to get a cheap keyboard, just to suite my needs, but after testing the blackwidow V2 with orange switches I knew i had to have it. Sleek design, comfortable typing, professional appearance, and convenient macro buttons (that I am starting to get the hang of.) Razers software for changing keycolors is Ui/Ux friendly and super easy to use and programable keys. I've said this before, but ill say it here razer is the apple of the gaming market with their branding and appearance. There's nothing more classy out there... which we pay the price tag for but Id rather look professional than XxG4m3rxX.

edit: After a week of use, it began making some weird ping noise and so i returned it and am getting a replacement sent to me. have decreased my 5 star rating to a 3 star.
Pluses:
- Chroma gaming, games are coming out in which razer will match your keyboard lights with the game (Overwatch is a great example of that), everything is automatic so no settings required, also it will sync with Philips hue hub/lights which is awesome and gives you a more immersive experience!
- Its a very nice clicky sound and feel, I love it as an all purpose keyboard for school and gaming.
- magnetic wrist rest which is very nice and feels great.
- all lights and keys can be individually turned off and on with synapse software, super cool! Customization settings are all over the web which is awesome!
- some effects can be synced across razor products (gaming pads, mouse, etc.)
Minuses:
- no function lock for the fn key... what the..
- cant program the 5 programmable keys to serve as a second fn key, what the..
- the dumbest thing is that none of the secondary icons on the keyboard light up, who the heck had that idea... I want them to light up!! Most keyboards do that...
- the headphone jack is useless as under powered, only works with earbuds and small headphone, def not gaming or professional headphones.
- the usb port is 2.0 only, even when i plugged it into a 3.0 port and its upsidedown!!! i know this because the light on all of my usb sticks face up in any other port except for this one... come on razer..
The good news is everything except for the secondary icons not having lights can be fixed with synaps software so remains to be seen.
So as i said, a great keyboard but far from perfect. There are some silly issues and engineering oversight for such a nice keyboard and reputable company. All in all, still a solid contender.
About the product.. Its the beast!! This is my fourth Razer keyboard and am a crazy fan of the brand...yellow switches are amazing. Linear and silent is what I needed and is what I got. Extra macro keys are always helpful and the pillow wrist pad is the best in the market!
Well its time to play with synapse 3 effects.. :)

But all those go for the corsair as well and the corsair one has aluminium front plate which makes it more sturdy, even though the build quality of the Blackwidow Chroma is great as well. But the thing that sets it apart is its wrist rest. Razer changed the wrist rest game entirely by including a magnetic attachable wristpad with soft leather like cushion! It is the best wrist rest ever and even if you are like "I dont care about the wrist rest" , trust me, after using this razer keyboard you will always miss the rest whenever typing on any other keyboard.
