During this whole time, I felt let down at the level of Amazon support. Even though the return window was closed, it was only a week after it closed that this happen. I can't believe I can't return something so expensive as a Prime Member. So now as a grad student and working professional, I need a new laptop, because I have a paperweight that has made me regret this purchase.
On a positive note, its a nice computer. Gets hot sometimes, but looks well made from the outside. I'd invest your money in a Macbook though, for an extra thousand, like I should have done honestly. It wouldn't be crashing constantly from hardware issues and unable to be used for long periods of time.
I was super happy to own a Razer Blade Laptop. I have been a Razer customer since sometime around 2008 or 2009 when I first bought the Razer Onza Tournament Edition controller for the Xbox 360. Since that time, I have own a small number of their other products, including both the Razer Wildcat and Wolverine Ultimate for Xbox One. Never did I have a problem with these products, at least that needed any technical support or I might not have bought this laptop. Now, I'm currently writing this review on my old laptop that I bought the Razer Blade to replace! And at present have no realistic ETA of when I'll have a working power cord back for it!
Over all the performance, minus a few bugs that worked themselves out through updates, has been stellar. Even as the base model of the RB15, it has more than enough horse power to play the games I want and look good doing it. The included Razer Synapse, that ties into the Razer Cynosa Chroma Keyboard I bought because of the laptop, is a really cool feature to have. I love having a music spectrum playing on my keyboards. In all, it's an excellent system in an incredibly small package. Just keep an eye on the power cord.
-Yes it's VR-ready. I haven't yet played games on it, but I looked all over before buying this and couldn't find anything that told me it was VR-Ready. But the sticker says it right there.
-The power adaptor is 230W and is $230. Illuminati confirmed?? Legit though that is very expensive.
-Forget MacBooks, this feels even cooler than a MacBook. With MacBooks you have to deal with slowdowns. Not with this powerhouse.
-Battery life. Yeah... Back to that powerhouse thing... You're gonna get like 2 hours max if you're editing or gaming on battery. What are you gonna do on battery anyway, play call of duty on the toilet? The only time I'm going to be away from an outlet for 2 hours is if I'm on a plane. But then on the other hand if I plug my laptop in, there's a chance I could pull so much power that it knocks out the plane's electronics and we all crash on a deserted island and I get my laptop stolen by a bunch of crazy natives.
But yeah the battery itself is pretty good, just not enough to get that MacBook all-day battery. They need an all day battery because it takes all day to get anything done on those pieces of junk.
All-in-all, this laptop kicks booty. Especially with that 1660ti card and 9750H processor.

To preface this, I purchased this device as a productivity machine first, that had the added benefit of having th graphics horsepower to fire up a game at 1080p or 1080p ultrawide scaled down at 1/4 resolution on my LG 5k2k monitor.
The build is solid, aluminum. Similar to a macbook in that they're both aluminum- but some corner cutting apparent (hold the bottom in the wrong face and hear the fans meeting the chassis since it bends so easily), the black PVD coating flaking off within a day or two of normal use, and other lack of refinement.
The keyboard, is very good however as is the trackpad. I'd compare the trackpad to a pre-2015 macbook (so yeah, it is near perfect) and the keyboard is a competent scissor switch design that is responsive and tactile. Not sure if i'd game on it (i'm not a huge gamer anyways though), but great for typing long essays on the go, etc.
The battery is a joke and if I hadn't seen teardown videos i'd swear razer stuck a single double A battery in there. It lasts me about 2-3 hours at idle (using MS word and a few firefox tabs) with power saving on.
The huge issue though, is the fan curve. And this year razer has locked down the laptop especially to restrict any third party tools from controlling it. Synapse, razer's tool to modify fan curve, can only change fan speed between 4000 and 5000 rpm. That's hairdryer territory.
Whenever I plug in my LG 5k2k display (4k ultrawide) the laptop is forced to use the dedicated GPU, which shouldn't be an issue. However it seems that razer's firmware makes the fans kick into overdrive whenever the dedicated GPU is used instead of the intel iGPU, even if it's at 1%. Thus, when I am using microsoft word or browsing the web the laptop sounds like a jet fighter ready to take off, despite the fact the CPU and GPU temps are both between 35C and 40C (relatively cool for a computer).
This is a huge issue for me as this device was purchased for use with an external display. For me, and many others who intend on using this with an external display, when not at load- this is a serious issue for which razer has no fix for after contacting support and swapping the laptop once.
Also- amazon listed this as a 144hz model. Only the 256gb model and up come with a 144hz screen.
I would only recommend this to people who intend to use the device as a laptop.
I have owned the same configuration from dell in a g5 5590. This one is better.
Pros: light, thin, aluminium build, solid screen although it’s only 60hz. 16gb ram, dual channel (Samsung) SSD 128gb for fast startup , 1tb barricuda HDD for plenty of storage. Nice keyboard. Good internals, quality fans and huge heat pipes.
Con: loud when gaming. The reality is that this is all ultralight gaming rigs with powerful internals. It’s very reasonable when just doing small tasks, surfing the web, Netflix. The dell i owner was loud and hot as well it was just 1.5 pounds heavier.
TLDR?; I have tried about four different set up ranging from 800-1600 $ this is the best for portability and performance.
- It’s compact and pretty powerful, but that means it runs hot and the fan is always on and is decently loud - is what it is.
- The HDD was unallocated, forcing me to jump through hoops just access the storage and make the thing more than a paperweight. - what the heck is that about?
- Overall it seems to be a great little laptop, the warehouse deal was a huge discount so I’m definitely pleased.
- Braided power cable is a nice touch.
