Well, recently I had the old double click issue begin happening to my Logitech MX wireless mouse, and hell it was very annoying, especially copy and pasting contents. Which would literally drive me crazy.
I had recently gotten back into PC Gaming, and this time wanted a performance mouse for gaming, however, not to crazy and gaming looking as I work on my PC as well. I came across 3 different mice that fit my visual needs. The SteelSeries rival 300, Zowie mouse, and Deathadder Chroma.
Ultimately ended up going with the Deathadder Chroma, as it is a customer favorite and a few buddies of mine have one which they had no complaints with.
I love the feel of this mouse, its gaming like aspects and color changing LED's. The clicks are very responsive and sound very tactile and light, very crisp and clean sound from all buttons.
- 10,000 DPI
- Doesn't have a DPI button on the mouse (Have to adjust via software)
- Doesn't come with OEM Original Box (Purchased as certified refurbished)
I had purchased this item as certified refurbished. The mouse literally looks and feels like new. Not even a scratch on it, and buttons feel very new.
I would definitely recommend this mouse to anyone looking for the same thing I was. Which is a very good gaming mouse, with visual aspects of between a normal and gaming mouse. With an ergonomic feel. (Actually feels nice in your hand)
It's a good mouse, but have to mark it average because wow - the driver interface is terrible. Seriously, what was Razer thinking forcing you to _register an account_ to configure your device drivers?! That's just not their place...
Luckily, once you register an account with Razer, you can use their driver configuration program, and the settings persist on non-volatile memory in the device. This means you only need to run their terrible program once, and then you can just use it as a normal mouse without their software.
I'll start with the packaging:
My device came "certified refurbished", so it didn't have the same fancy packaging that I'm used to. Instead, it included two single-page green papers (one referencing a rewards program and the other referencing Razer's social media pages), a paper with two Razer stickers, and the "Important Product Information Guide", which is a 21-page booklet (this booklet basically just shows you how to plug the USB plug into your computer.
Next up: The Mouse!
Comparing the Chroma to the original, I immediately noticed that the Chroma is darker (well, it's black, not dark grey). I love the subtle change. Also, there's a small grippy rubber patch below the thumb-buttons which has been added since the DA that I bought a few years back. This grip is a much-needed addition, in my opinion, as it makes for the perfect hold of the mouse when moving it quickly during games. As soon as I plugged it in, the mouse's Razer logo and scroll wheel started cycling through the color spectrum. It's a slow, subtle cycle that can be changed very easy using the downloadable Razer Synapse software (more on that next). The cord is the same braided fiber cord that you'll be used to if you've used Razer's products before. If not, just take my word for it that the cord will never fray or break, and cat's aren't nearly as inclined to try to chew on this type of cord, for some reason.
Lastly: The software.
Mileage will probably vary for most people on this one. I've used the Synapse software before for my Razer Nostromo (the left-hand keyboard designed to be used for MMOs and MOBAs) on Windows, but I've since switched to a MacBook Pro. The Synapse software works wonderfully on my MacBook Pro running the Developer Preview of OS X El Capitan. In the settings, you're able to customize the buttons on the mouse (7 inputs can be changed: 5 buttons and either direction on the scroll wheel). You can also tie button configurations to "profiles" and then configure it so that the mouse switches configurations based on the software you're using. For example, if you play League of Legends and want the thumb buttons to stop your champion and attack move, you can configure them to "s" and "a" respectively, then save the profile so that it turns on whenever you play League. Alternative, you can make another profile that lets you go back and forward through your web browser and initiate that profile whenever Chrome is open. I don't have much use for the profiles, but if you play multiple games this is a great option!
The performance tab lets you choose how sensitive the mouse is, what polling rate you want to use, etc. Again, these can be saved as profiles and triggered by applications.
The lighting tab is really cool. You can have both the wheel and the logo cycle in unison, you can switch either to a specific color, or you can turn each/both off. I like the "spectrum cycling" because of it's subtle change in color. It's not very bright, and there's a setting to "Switch off all lighting when the display is turned off", if you're worried about it keeping you up at night.
The last tab, calibration, is very cool although I don't know how useful it actually is. It allows you to calibrate the device to the surface you're using. If you have a Razer mat, you can select it and it should auto-calibrate. Otherwise, you can manually add a mat (just click Custom Mat), and it will let you quickly calibrate the mouse so that it works with that mat without issues. Considering the fact that most mouse pads work without issues, I don't think this setting is super-relevant, but it's nice to have something that could fix minor/major issues that people have relating to the surface their mouse is on.
Overall, this mouse is great. It's an awesome update for my old, dying DeathAdder (I've had the DeathAdder for 3+ years, if I'm not mistaken, and the right click broke on me last week). To be honest, I'm impressed by how well my old DA held up, considering it's been with me to 6 states and 2 countries with no separate case or protection!
For those worried about buying refurbished, this device looks and feels brand new. There is no sign of use at all!
No flaws, works perfectly, can't tell that it's refurbished once out of the box.
The mouse is a great one, the plastic on top resists stains due to its texture and the side grips are very comfortable.
Slightly difficult to grasp the entire mouse to pick it up bc of the shape if you're into that, however
