First she likes the black color much more. I could not understand why the black one was so much more expensive for seemingly the same exact product. That's why I bought the pink one. I didn't notice the tires being different on the black model. On the pink scooter, the tires use bicycle type wire spokes. On the pink scooter I received, the spokes were not tightened properly and the tires were out of alignment. If you spun the tires you could see how badly the tires wobbled. I could have taken a lot of time to align the tension, but I didn't want to waste my time doing that, so I sold it instead. The black scooter appears to have cast pneumatic tires, so I think tires should always be aligned properly. The specifications are vague and conflicting. One place says the weight limit is 220 pounds and another says 175 pounds in the same description. I think the cast tire rims can accommodate more weight. That may be the reason for the higher price, but I am not sure.
I wanted to know what the storage compartment under the seat was like, but until I bought it, I couldn't find what the storage volume was anywhere. It is a small rectangular compartment enough for maybe four soda cans. On mine, the four mounting screws cut into the plastic, so I added flat washers to secure it better. They could have made the storage compartment significantly larger and more useful if they had chosen and for virtually the same cost.
I removed the storage compartment to see the batteries. There are two UB1270 SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) batteries - the same kind you would find in a typical UPS backup power supply. For only a few dollars more, they could have used a pair of UB1290 batteries in the very same size (9 versus 7 Amps). I would only buy the UB1290 battery for replacement. The UB1290 should extend the range possibly 30% for only about five dollars extra. The battery leads are soldered to the batteries and covered with some gel over the terminals. While I agree this is very good to guard against intermittent contact, it makes it very difficult to replace the batteries as you most certainly will have to do in the not too distant future. I think I read that replacing the batteries voids the warranty. But seriously, would anyone expect to return the entire scooter just to replace the batteries? They should have used a different method to attach the terminals to make it easy to swap batteries.
The headlight is fake; strictly for appearance. But why wouldn't they put some LED lights into this otherwise functional light? And at the same time, put some reflectors and LEDs on the rear for safety? They probably don't want the liability of implying this scooter can be used for nighttime driving, but they could have included all this for maybe $10 extra at most - probably much less in volume production, or at least made it easy to install. It can still be done, but not easily.
The first thing you have to do is mount the handlebar. Realistically, you have to remove the plastic panel to see what you are doing. The panel comes off much easier than it goes back on. It took me quite a while to get the two center screws to align. Otherwise, you are blindly sticking the handlebar rod into the steering column. The steering column should be considerably longer. It is too short except for small children. I don't think this scooter is safe for small children. There is only one speed - full power. You can modulate the speed only by pulsing the motor which isn't very good for the batteries and especially the battery controller. The brakes are very good - at least on dry pavement. I did not investigate how the braking is accomplished.
So that is my opinion of this scooter. I am seriously considering buying the black one now, but I think I need to look around some more before making my next purchase. I admit this is a very good price - just wish they would make a few changes to improve this scooter and perhaps offer an advanced model for $25 extra.
My scooter is beautiful, when I got it, it was a ruby/garnet red and my dad had NO problems what so ever putting it together. (handle bars, tires Etc.) I love the storage compartment in the seat, (very creative) it makes it easy to store bottled water, the tools for taking it apart AND putting it together, and the manual for the pocket mod (scooter). Easy to drive/control, easy to sit on, (because I'm small enough) and easy to wash/wipe down when dirty. Now to my complaints. First of all, my scooter did NOT look like the picture, mine had no black streaks on the sides, and the part of the scooter that has the on/off button wasn't black either. The scooter itself is VERY, VERY, easily scratched, it now has a large L shaped scratch on the back of it. :(. The brake was also easily scratched. (unfortunate due to it being such a pretty penny in costs) Anyways, my complaints are minor, and I still ride and love my scooter! :)
