Cree and the remaining band members of Faust find themselves in the hot seat after their bassist abandons them in this new English-language manga. Cree stumbles upon Izsak, a talented bassist living in the subway, who just happens to be playing a song that she holds dear. Much to the objections of close friend and guitar player Rail, Cree not only invites Izsak to join the band but also asks him to move in with her. Though Cree and Char (Faust's drummer) accept Izsak with open arms, Rail remains suspicious of a man with no past and no future. Watching Cree grow close with Izsak only succeeds in pushing Rail to dislike him further, and he eventually goes so far as to trail Izsak. But things are not exactly as they seem, and the mysteries surrounding Faust's new bassist run deep. Lijewski seamlessly blends American and Japanese comic styles to create a hybrid, punk manga look that easily catches the eye. Her storytelling is strong, the plot intricate and engrossing, and the characters ultra likable. This is a catchy manga title with an upbeat mood and a style that sets it apart. (Aug.)

Spectacular original english manga!

This is without a doubt the best original title available from TokyoPop. RE:play's story-telling and artwork have a level of quality and professionalism that most of the TokyoPop "original-english-language" titles lack. The writing is solid and entertaining and the artwork is polished and beautiful.

The characters in this manga are what really take it a step above the average. No cartoony bimbos or cookie-cutter personalities here. Cree is a very real and human character and we can easily relate to her feelings of past regrets and her passion for her art. Izsak on the other hand is a mystery wrapped in a beautiful package. Suspicious yet charming, Izsak is the type of person anyone would be intrigued by. Will Cree's attraction to this potentially dangerous stranger end up as another mistake for her to regret? This very question is what hooks you in and doesn't let go.

If you like punk-rock, stylish fashions, romance, mysteries, or just manga in general you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. There's something here for everyone. You won't be disappointed.

RE:warding RE:reading!:

I got my copy of RE:PLAY last friday night and read it during a nice long bubble bath (by candle light even)...

What a wonderful new series! Part romance, part horror, and all fun. RE:PLAY is a shojo manga that incorporates all the classic ingredients yet still feels fresh and exciting, mostly due to Christy's distinctive drawing style and storytelling sensibilities.

Some "american manga" creators are really just adding some manga touches to what are essentially straightforward american style comics. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and I love the work of many of these artists. Still, Christy's work just FEELS like manga to me and was a great read from start to finish.

my favorite CHARacter is, of course, Char...but all the characters are well defined and interesting. the artwork (including the tones)is consistent and polished with plenty of little touches that REward REreading.

i highly recommend this book and anxiously look forward to volume 2!!!

Fantastic American Made Manga

Never judge manga quality by the nationality of the artist. Despite the recent overflow of not-so-great Tokyopop manga in the "Manga Revolution" this particular one is fantastic. The art is supurb, the characters original and funny and the storyline has some great plot-twists. I've always loved Christy's work online and I was very excited that she got RE:Play published. I'd recommend this to any manga lover-especially if you like music, fashion, humor and the occasional "I'm sorry what gender is this character again?"

Crisp, clean art!

I'd heard about this manga long before it was published and had been waiting anxiously for it's debut. I was not disappointed. Christy Lijewski did stellar with both the line art and the story itself. Twists and turns and beautiful illustrations throughout. You will not be disappointed!
