It also suffers from the same problems that open world games always have: repetitive quests, enemies, and environments. However, ReCore's biggest flaw (in my opinion) is the fact that **the game isn't finished**! There are entire sections of the world that are on the map but can't be accessed because they are blocked by sticky mud. It's clear that this mud was supposed to be an obstacle that could be cleared by getting a particular robot tank to help you, but that robot tank is mysteriously missing from the game. Research shows that they ran out of time and removed it from the game. You can still beat the game, but there is inaccessible game content that will be staring you in the face long after you've completed everything.
(hint: you can exploit some glitches to access that content if you're persistent enough)
Conclusion: if you're a metroidvania fanatic, get this and you won't regret it... as long as you can force yourself to ignore the empty 5th robot slot and the mud areas that can't be traversed without it. If you're not, then this may not be the game for you.
So I have taken off 2 stars because I am so incredibly furious that I rage quit. I am stuck on the last jumping puzzle right before ending level 5 of the Eden Tower. I just cannot do it. This puzzle, combined with all the ridiculous padding of extra jumping puzzles (why 5 levels to get to Victor??) equaled literally about 100 deaths for my Joule. I am tired of dying over and over and over again. So I did not get to fight the final boss and finished the game and story. I probably burst a blood vessel trying to finish this f***ing game!!!! Other than the onslaught of difficult puzzles and fights, puzzles and fights, then more puzzles and fights, I really did like the game. So disappointed 😔
I played the demo of this game last year and it definitely sparked my interest. Then I finally bought the game for PC a couple of weeks ago and I haven't been able to stop playing for long! Because of the mediocre reviews the game had been receiving, I was hesitant to buy it. However, I am SO glad I did and I am SO glad it was available for PC (I am a PC gamer more than console player). The graphics are stunning. The robots are adorable. The story is interesting. The controls on the keyboard feel natural and are easy to use. I have had a BLAST going up huge traverses with Seth! It feels like you're going on a little rollercoaster ride on the back of an adorable metal spider (who knew a spider could be cute?)
Currently all my bots are level 25, and I have been farming for a particular resource I need to upgrade Duncan's armor/equipment. Even though farming for items is repetitive, it's never boring, and I look forward to continuing the story. I definitely recommend this game to players who love open worlds, looting, upgrading, and action type shooting. This game has been a pleasant surprise - I hope they make more of ReCore!!
