This is the story of Rachel and Devin. The book is a romantic suspense novel and not for the faint of heart. There are bouts of violence that are described in fairly graphic detail. I think the fact that L.L. went into such detail makes the story that much more real.
Devin and Rachel were together when they were younger before a huge misunderstanding tore them apart. Flash forward five years and both of them are merely existing not really being the best versions of themselves. Taking what they can get because it is what they both think they deserve. Rachel becomes involved with a man who quickly becomes abusive. My heart broke for Rachel as she was attacked. Enter Devin, sweet, sexy Devin. He is a hero in every sense of the word. A cop that fights the good fight and will do anything to protect the woman he loves.
After her attack, Rachel and Devin are attached at the hip! I love that he is so protective and dutiful in taking care of her as she is healing. I liked that we could see how much progress Rachel was making, not just physically but mentally as well. She was able to swallow her fear and go support another victim. That scene alone about broke my heart. No one should have to suffer through that but to go and let yourself be the shoulder for someone else who has been through the same thing...strong woman.
Our couple struggles with putting their past behind them but they find a way to do it. They battle their demons together, face their issues and come out stronger on the other side. There are threats coming at them from all sides and they will both do whatever they can to keep the other safe. I love the last twist that was thrown in there as well.
One of the things I absolutely love about this series is that all the characters have a great support system. The people we fell in love with in Living Again, Ben and Kayley (and their brood of kids) play a part in this book as well. All questions that were raised were wrapped up in a happily ever after bow!
Rachel has a secret, one she won’t even share with Kayley her best friend. Moving to the area five years ago she was trying to run from a break up with her one true love Devin. He left her due to lies, but she can’t tell him the truth. She just has to accept that he is gone and she deserves to be alone. On the anniversary of their break up she is in the bar, trying to forget when Justin comes to introduce himself to Rachel.
Seeing how one night stands are common practice for her, to help her forget Devin, she took Justin home, the problem is, he didn’t want to leave. This is when Rachel’s life gets dangerous and her life hangs by a thread.
Devin felt he know the truth, Rachel hurt him, lied to him and betrayed him, but his heart would never let her go. Moving to different cities in the state working for the law, he finally lands a job with the SWAT team. His goal had been reached; he just wishes he had Rachel to celebrate with him. Once he is settled into his new job, he is alerted of a situation that his team needs to rush to. Little did he know when the team makes their way into the house, his dream is drowning in the most horrific of situations.
As we see Rachel get the pieces of her life back together, Devin finds a place back in her life. She knows the truth of the past is going to have to come out soon, but how will he handle it. He promised to never leave her again, but can she count on that? Will he try to find justice for the wrong that others have caused him and Rachel?
This was one of the most heart breaking, emotional reads I have read in a very long time. I was glued to every page begging that those two would have a chance to start over again. I wanted both of them to find their dreams that had been taken from them so long ago. LL Collins is one of my all-time favorite authors because she brings us stories that will stay with the reader for a long time. Her characters become part of our soul, their stories part of our own lives. I could read this book over and over again and I don’t feel I would lose one once of emotion that LL draws out of me. I can’t even tell you how much I recommend this book. It will certainly be on my list of favorites.
I was hooked from the very beginning with this book, it is so full of emotions
Finding out what makes Rachel the way she is today and why she doesn't do relationships she tries to move on from the one man that she truly loves Devin
Just when she decides to move on tragedy strikes Rachel this is where the book really started to get emotional for me.
After this tragedy Devin and Rachel worlds collide again. Devin is a ROCK for Rachel and neither one of them have EVER stopped loving the other. He pushes Rachel to not give up, she is and always will be it for him and he will always be the one for her.
This book has tragedy, pain, healing and most important true love and healing. A beautifully written love story by a very talented Author.
I look forward to many more from this Author and cannot wait for the third book in this series.
I was given a copy of this book by the Author for a honest review
