Lyndon is an actor but he is also a Dom. Out of the blue he unexpectedly meets Shale Shelby. The two are far from a normal couple or any kind of couple at all in my opinion. What binds these two together is their mutual love for BDSM and the fact someone recorded them together to ruin both of them.
The more time together they spent the worse the videos got and if released it would ruin Lyndon's career. So Shale does what he must to save Lyndon and it comes with a major cost that neither one of them may never recover from.
This book was in my opinion on the dark side of reading. It was interesting to see the twist and turns the plot of the story took and I did enjoy the read. I would only suggest this book to others that like BDSM for one but also one who does not mind the darker side of blackmail.

With all these boxes checked, I felt I should love this book a little more than I did. For me it just didn't have the fluid writing and plot development it should have. I was left with more questions than answers at times especially about Shale’s past. The opening ‘act’ was HOT and Shale and Lyndon’s intense sexual chemistry just about melted my kindle! But from there, it just seemed all about the sex. Lyndon was a deliciously evil Dominant and Shale ate that up as the sarcastic non-submissive. The plot twist came as a video of them in one of their steamier encounters that surfaces and appears to be tied to Shale’s past. From there I couldn't follow the rest of the book. Although this book didn't wow me, I'm going to keep my eye out for more from Parker Avrile!

This is not an average romance. In fact, I would struggle to really call it a romance at all, to be perfectly honest. There is no boy-meets-boy, get-to-know-one-another, fall-in-love in this book. Another point that needs to be considered is that this is very far removed from what readers have come to expect from what BDSM should be. Consensual? Yes, it always seems to be consensual. Just don't expect safe words, any negotiation of limits or contracts, and I'm not sure the scenes always fall under the sane and safe banner either.
Having said this, it was a very enjoyable and entertaining read. Unfortunately, it did feel a bit rushed. There were instances where things were hinted at, or bits that were mentioned in passing, yet no further info seemed to be forthcoming. Also there seemed to be some inconsistencies in behaviours throughout. And I'll admit, this threw me slightly off at times. I think I would have preferred the story to have been more padded and at a slightly slower pace. This would have helped the rushed feeling I was getting. And while the sex was smoking hot, there seemed to be a lot of sex scenes and not so much story.
However, I truly enjoyed Shelby's and Lyndon's chemistry. They weren't just 2 dimensional cut-outs; the author managed to make them come alive.
I'll definitely keep an eye on Ms Avrille's writing!
Parker Avrile has a style of rather direct prose, rather stark and unembellished. It's written in first person as well. For me, it creates a mood that's intense and I find I focus more on the words and the story. Shelby and Lyndon meet by means of an unusual setup. But Lyndon likes to dominate and Shelby likes pain and forced submission. With their first encounter, they find they're a well matched pair. The BDSM is not about safewords and setting limits as seen in most stories. Do not try this at home! It's not meant to be truly realistic but it never gets terribly extreme. Some pain play and bondage, mostly.
Shelby has a rather exotic yet shady background and his character is drawn quite well. I'd like to see a sequel of how they continue on together and get more of Lydons POV. We don't really get alt of character or insight on him, except for what Shelby learns as they spend time together. There's some world building but primarily concerns environments specific to the characters lives.
I really enjoyed seeing the situations in the book unfold. There are several scenes that Shelby and Lyndon do together and they're very intense. I like Ms. Parkers unique storylines and I look forward to seeing this become a series.
Told from Shale Shelby's perspective, this is m/m BDSM with him as bolshie, streetwise bottom with a very colourful past and a somewhat experienced movie star top. From the blurb I was expecting some police involvement (it mentions Feds) maybe even someone being forced into an undercover role, but this didn't happen.
The BDSM is smoking hot, I mean Whew! I didn't pick up any editing issues and both characters were complex and likeable. So why not 5 stars?
I found it hard to believe that such a confirmed pain slut, I mean Shale is a true-blue masochist who pushes his partner to give him what he craves, used to dominate his powerful, criminal ex-boyfriend that he was running from. It was a headscratcher that I just couldn't get over, and it got a little weirder towards the end with an eye opening (very well done) 'flip' scene.
Nevertheless, this is an entertaining read, and I'd like to read more by this author.
