Ever wonder just how the constitution came to be? Why are certain things in the constitution and not others? "How to Read the Federalist Papers" is an easy read and explains the climate of the new nation, the pursuasive arguments for adopting the new constitution and the need of a strong federal government. The book gives background about the authors of the Federalist Papers and I enjoyed that it is easy to understand and is well outlined and short. It is a great way to begin a study on the Federalist Papers. I am part of a Constitution Study group which is now studing the Federalist Papers and found it essential as a good beginning study and a source of additional questions. The tenents of the Federalist Papers are just as pertinent today as they were at the beginning of our nation.

I decided to revisit my Nation's basis and backbone, so purchased this, plus the Anti-Federalist Papers from Amazon. They arrived quickly and perfectly packaged... but what's important is what is IN the box.

To understand what and who we are as Americans... not just as individuals but as a society, a citizenry... it's necessary to understand the intent of our Founding Fathers. If you do that, then the changes in the world, technology, etc. can still be seen through their eyes. It will open our eyes, and it is necessary.

These three documents and books will give anyone willing to think an understanding of the minds and the hearts of those able to provide us all with the structure for our Country and nation. We can, therefore be continuously successful as America if we read, understand... and try hard to not screw it up.

Read these three, and reread them often. I will be doing that with you.

An excellent and informative read on the Constitutional Convention Debates. You'll want to read it a second and third time, but unlike the Federalist Papers, you probably wont need to. Great for American History enthusiasts. Perfect for aspiring enthusiasts!

The author speaks from "the inside": he is a PolySci professor at Utah State University. I thought when I bought, that I was taking a risk, that the tone would be "preachy" and that I'd be buying a harangue, not a guide. I find it to be the guide I wanted.

If you've ever picked up the Federalist cold and started reading #1 thinking you'd flip pages to the end and understand it, you may have been disappointed, like I was. Don't be. There are background concepts you need to understand. This little primer puts your head in the right space to read the essays, then it gives you right-sized chewable snippets; quotes you can simmer on and reflect about today's current events, but (gladly) without political commentary. One "useful quote" I found myself curious enough about, led me to turn to #51 and read the essay to get the rest of the thinking and context, rather painlessly. I give it this book a four not a five because I personally reserve fives the best of the best (my 4 is someone else's 5). I do believe this little book has started me on a study of the Federalist, which will change my view of the constitution, and SCOUS, and POTUS, and Congress, and that makes it one of the best. I do recommend it!

Another excellent history lesson in a brief, concise format that helps define and clarify what the founding fathers of the United States went through to make our country's leadership strong and correct. Through conflict and debate, these "rules" for our country to live by evolved hundreds of years ago and are still a contemporary guide for society today. Those guys wrote the ticket for the future of their country and we're the living proof that thy were right! Great read. Try it.

Really necessary to understand The Federalist Papers. This book is packed with a lot of info in a little bit of space. Wonderful for understanding the foundations of the United States government as it was meant to be.

An excellent guide to The Federalist. I depend on the Heritage Foundation books. In the event you aren't particularly interested in conservative point of view, you likely won't like it.
