in easy to read format. My four-year-old is done with the Level-1 and now we
have shifted to level-2.
The level two offers us the following famous stories: 1. The Gingerbread Man
2. Three Little Pigs 3. Town Mouse and Country Mouse 4. Chicken Licken
5. Little Red Riding Hood 6. Sly Fox and Red Hen.
What I like about these book: The story is narrated in fewer words and most
words are repeated throughout that particular book. When you open the page
most of the space is occupied by pictures drawn in conventional but well made
illustrations.The text is thankfully limited, just right for children.
What I think lacks in this classic Ladybird series: The books should have been
in larger format. That format might be available in other series and at a higher price
range but I am discussing this particular six-book package. Besides, in the effort to
tell the story in fewer words, the stories are left incomplete. The parents or
teachers have to fill the gaps. If I don't tell my son what is left unsaid, my son asks me
all kinds of questions as he doesn't feel satisfied with what is told to him. You need
not worry, however, as you can always make up the missing story from the illustrations.
I must also mention that nowadays new illustrators and writers (like Julia Donaldson
and Oliver Jeffers) have come with superb books. Compared to their works,
these books feel so dead, so previous generation. Yet they do have an old world
