The plastic is very rigid and not bendy at all like the previous set and the pegs do not have a hook on them and appear to be glued or welded securely in place. I will update this review after I use them for a while, but they look like I will be very pleased.
@@@update@@@. Great loom set. I'm changing to five stars. My seven year old granddaughter came over and gave them a try and she was able to make a hat and scarf for her 18" doll in one afternoon. No fell out like the Boye brand and the material held up well against tight stitches.
Where I see a bit of a problem is in the finish of this item. It is obviously a very different kind of plastic. It doesn't have any give, and seems like it will last just as long. But it has a glossy finish on it that was most likely put on after making, which is bubbling and pooling in some places, and on a couple of the pegs I noticed large bubbles at the base of the peg, which I was able to break using the hook tool. Will this layer peel off over time and with use? If so, will it render the loom useless, it not having a smooth surface for the yarn to glide over? Remains to be seen.
On the whole, happy with this, but if the appearance is a deal breaker for you, it's not ugly, but you may find yourself wondering how long it will last.
I'd recommend this for kids learning to or wanting to knit too. Any child over the age of 7 or 8 can learn to loom knit with supervision.
