Perfect book to kick off my Fall-centered reading! I know, I know... It's mostikely not even close to Fall for most people, but for me the weather is already cooling and Fall is here.

I love reading books that have books or bookish characters and this was an enjoyable one. Not only was it set around gothic books and their authors, it has a costume gala, murder, and mystery. I can't think of a better way to spend my day.

I absolutely love the Readaholics and the friendship they all share through, not only books, but through their everyday life occurrences. That they also solve mysteries together is a plus. 🤣

Not sure if the author has plans for more of this series but I'm crossing my fingers!!

This is the third installment of The Book Club Mysteries by Laura DiSilverio. Amy-Faye is hired by to put together an event celebrating gothic writers. It will include a small panel of current gothic writers, an auction, and a costumed ball. All the plans seem to be in order...and then the authors and their problems and egos arrive. Amy-Faye holds it together until at the ball a woman, who is stalking one of the writers, shows up and flings faux blood on everyone. If that isn't bad enough, the manager brings Amy-Faye back to his office where summon has staked a man on his desk. Well Amy-Faye just can't help herself, and with her Readaholic friends, there is snooping and shenanigans to get up to!

This series just keeps getting better and better. I loved the gothic backdrop of this one. The characters have really grown from the first book and each are distinct in their persona now. Maude is still easily my favorite character, and she is still seeing conspiracies everywhere. As for the side characters in this book, the authors were all great and added a lot of humor in spots also. The last scene with them all was a hoot!

I would definitely recommend this book to all cozy mystery fans. It is part of a series and it is nice for backstory if you read them in order, but it is also fine as a stand alone novel. I can't wait to see what happens in the next one!

As the Readaholics finish their book choice for the month, 'Rebecca' by Daphne Du Maurier, a large Famous Authors old and new gala event is being planned by Gemma Frant, owner of Heaven, Colorado's only bookstore using the talents of Readaholic book club member, Amy-Faye Johnson and her assistant Al Frink's Company 'Eventful!'

Three current authors have been invited. And a mixed grouping they are. Everything is going well and everyone is enjoying the hospitality of the best Bed & Breakfast, Columbine. Next up is the costume party and the small town of Heaven, population 10,096 is thrilled. That is until a man is found murdered by a stake, that fellow Readaholic, Lola had carried.

As the book club members try to solve the mystery, we have Amy-Faye finding unusual romantic and other connections threading their way through the search.

The chase scene and yes, there is one, was fast-paced an inventive.

This was a good, solid, cozy novel with a bit of a thriller's chase.

The Celebration of Gothic Novels gala is being attended modern day gothic authors. It's all in honor of the queens of the gothic novel, like Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney and Mary Stewart, whose books often littered chairs and tables in my home when I was growing up. The 100th birthday of Mary Stewart ties together Amy-Faye's event as well. Naturally, skeletons, red herrings and egos abound as Amy-Faye and her well written friends decide to investigate what happened to the newcomer to Heaven. There are a couple other boos in the series, but I found that this was easy to read as a stand alone, background information wasn't too important, or shared as necessary.

Amy Faye is planning a Gothic novel themed series of events and hosting three authors. Each has some issues. One is an old friend of Maude's but has some issues with her daughter. Another has a stalker who claims she wrote the best seller not the author. A third has a stolen manuscript. A strange man who had been lurking around all the events ends up dead so of course the Readaholics dig in. I had most of the motive figured out but not quite right. Entertaining personal developments as well for series readers

I like that our intrepid protagonist isn't always in life-threatening danger once she figures out who is the culprit. Characters are likeable, same repetitive backstory repeated for each book is not. If each recurring character is to be introduced in each book, at the very least, new information should be provided for them. Hate paying for the same story info in every book. I do appreciate that the plots are not stuck in the exact same formula rut that some serial writers seem to find themselves. Will keep reading as long as the stories are new and refreshing and look forward to book four.

I find Laura DiSilverio's books fun to read, even though these are mysteries and involve murder there is a touch of humor in the way she describes the reactions of the characters she has created, I will continue to read this series. As for this particular book in the series it was enjoyable, a quick read like the others but I felt the main character was not quite up to how she was portrayed in previous books.

I'm not as good as I used to be about keeping up with pen names, so, when looking at the books by this author, I discovered that I've read almost all of her other books written under various names. I enjoy her style. Her books are mysteries with minimal gore. I like puzzles rather than shock.

If you have like the old fashioned gothic stories by Mary Stewart, Phyllis Whitney, Victoria Holt, and others, you'll likely enjoy this.
