During an RCIA class taught by a priest, he said we should always prepare for Mass by reading the scriptures beforehand so we can then participate in Mass by actively listening to the scriptures. Having this book on a kindle, which is so easy to carry around, makes it possible for the readings to be part of prayer and meditation preparation before Mass… or part of personal devotions for any Daily Masses that can’t be attended. The kindle edition for the 2012-2013 liturgical year was very manageable and easy to navigate, and the 2013-2014 edition looks to be the same.

A great resource for anyone who works in ministry in the Roman Catholic Church or celebrates in the Roman Catholic faith tradition.. The book is compiled of the complete daily and weekend Mass readings for Cycle A which will begin Dec. 1st. This publication comes out annually in accordance to the liturgical year. It would be a wonderful companion for parishioners attending Mass or for those who worship from their homes or facilities such as hospitals, nursing centers or prisons via internet or a televised Mass. A wonderful way to enrich one's faith and to immerse oneself in the Sacred Scriptures read throughout the liturgical year.

The end of the liturgical year is coming up. When I realize that, I move on to make a purchase for my Kindle that has become routine in the last couple of years ... Reading God's Word: Daily Mass Readings.

It's inexpensive - $10.

It's incredibly useful. I wouldn't have believed how much I'd refer to it, whether simply in my own daily reading or for various other projects.

It's one of the books that "lives" on my Kindle. And I don't have a lot of those, usually preferring a book in the hand to one in the Kindle. (ha! yes, feel free to use that if you want). The formatting is well done and it's easy to navigate.

Aside from an occasionally annoying translation, the basic problem of this series is the absence of the Entrance Antiphon, the Collect, the Prayer over the Gifts, Communion Antiphon, etc. Apparently the compliers have assembled this only for Mass Readers, and provided only the readings read by lay readers, possibly on the assumption that the laity don't really have to understand what's actually happening in the mass as a whole, but only in the particular little bits they have to read. So it's really not that useful for daily mass goers.

The content is obviously the Bible, so it's got that going for it. Otherwise it is a great way to keep up on the cycle of readings, especially if you are not a daily Mass goer. However, it only has the scripture itself. It does not have tips for Lectors for the Sunday readings that printed material has. So ideally, lectors will want to get a print version with all the extras to help you prepare. I would probably not have purchased this had I known it didn't have that. Still, it is handier than remembering what cycle we're in, finding out what the readings are, and looking them up in your Bible.

Use this book to read the daily missal and put yourself in a meditating state. I have used this book for previous years and continue using the daily readings. One complaint for this year’s publication: each day should start on a new page. Perhaps in a printed publication you could argue saving printed paper pages but in electronic form noting is gained but aggravation in finding daily reference is evident.

We love these books and always purchase these for our Kindles. All of the Mass readings from the 1st day of Advent to Christ the King Sunday (the Liturgical year) are contained in this one book. The Catholic Liturgical year is divided into 3 year cycles for Sundays, and two year cycles for weekdays. Now, one could carry the hardbound Missal around if they want. It's a huge book because it contains all of the readings for every day of the year for all cycles. It's also very heavy.
And missals in the pews are popular. But they rarely have the weekday readings.
Therefore there is a market for monthly magazines that contain all the month's readings for Sundays and weekdays. They're usually very nice. But, the problem with them is that they are not cheap once you've added up month by month.
So, this type of book, for Kindle anyway, is the best. All the readings are there day, by day, by day.
The only downside is that the book doesn't have the Eucharistic prayers or the introductory rites such as the Gloria and the Creed. Of course, there is a solution for that in other kindle books (I highly recommend The Order of Mass - eReader Edition) and of course the missals in the pews has that information as well.
I do recommend this book for those who want to attend daily Mass or just want to follow along in prayer when one can't make it to Mass.
Additional note added 4/27/14--everything being said, it does not contain all Mass readings for the Easter Vigil. I'd completely forgotten that when I wrote the original review. Now that were into the 2nd week of the Easter season, I wish I had mentioned that problem before especially since I recalled it too late to do anything about it. Still a very good and handy book.
