Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book documents the time before Clinton became a candidate, when the super PAC gathered some four million signatures of supporters urging her to run. Bringman describes the effort as grassroots politicking at its best... This was no well-heeled organization. Its founders were two Northern Virginia Democrats -- a 27-year-old reserve cop and a 61-year-old historian -- who for a time ran the organization out of a drab office near a Chinese takeout place... Thus began an adventure that lasted two years, took Bringman through 45 states -- his description of trying to maneuver the decked out "Ready for Hillary" bus make up some of the funnier scenes in the book -- and resulted in Clinton starting her campaign with a lengthy contact list of supporters across the country." --The Dayton Daily News

"Seth Bringman was the first employee of Ready for Hillary after it formed in early 2013, and served as communication director for the next two years. He was intimately involved in the super PAC's operations and interactions with other Democratic players.
Bringman is the first Clinton-world operative to publish a personal account of the 2016 cycle... When Ready for Hillary formed shortly after Clinton stepped down as secretary of state, it seemed to do so out of nowhere from the perspective of many former Clinton aides and allies... But with apparent tacit approval from Clinton herself, the super PAC grew and eventually gained credibility with the addition of veteran Clinton operatives. It went on raise over $15 million, build a list of more than 4 million supporters, and lock down endorsements from dozens of top Democratic elected officials." --MSNBC

From the Author

As Hillary Clinton stepped down as Secretary of State and thought about her next steps, her grassroots supporters weren't going to be silenced or told to somehow curb their enthusiasm. It wasn't strategic or even possible to ask them to stop talking about 2016. The urgency in their hearts for a Hillary Clinton candidacy could not wait to be expressed. Ready for Hillary allowed millions of supporters to speak in unison with their collective, resounding voices.

Despite considerable challenges, Ready for Hillary's supporters planted a flag, organized, survived and thrived far beyond even the wildest imaginations of its founders. Millions of Hillary supporters joined a national grassroots movement, interjecting themselves into both Hillary's decision-making process and democracy itself. Along the way, Washington insiders mocked them. Media elites dismissed them. Political forces even tried to shut them down. But because of their determination and dedication to Hillary, they prevailed.

Not surprisingly, this book is titled "Ready for Hillary." Simply put, this story needed to be told. It's the story of an unprecedented movement of millions of grassroots supporters encouraging Hillary to run for president. My writing is informed by a unique experience of meeting thousands of Hillary supporters in 45 states. I seek to honor the commitment of these and other supporters in every corner of the country. Their efforts, their energy, and their enthusiasm deserves a place in political history.
