"READY FOR LOVE is a beautiful and inspiring love story. I was riveted to the pages of Ready for Love not only for this magical romance but for the outstanding secondary plot lines as well. This may be my first McCarthys of Gansett Island book but it will not be my last! I am in love with these people and the tiny island they live on." --Joyfully Reviewed --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
From the Author
Welcome back to Gansett Island for Luke and Sydney's story! As a wife and mother, this one really touched my heart. Sydney's losses are simply unimaginable, but thanks to Luke's devotion she might be ready to take a second chance on love. I so hope you enjoy their story as much as I enjoyed writing it. You'll also get to catch up on some of your favorite characters from the first two books and meet some newcomers to the island.
READY FOR LOVE continues the story begun in MAID FOR LOVE and FOOL FOR LOVE. Next up is FALLING FOR LOVE, featuring Grant McCarthy, and then HOPING FOR LOVE, featuring Evan McCarthy, and then SEASON FOR LOVE, featuring Laura McCarthy, and LONGING FOR LOVE, featuring Tiffany Sturgil, all of which are now available. You can look forward to stories for Adam McCarthy, Jenny Wilks and Shane McCarthy as well as other characters you'll meet in future books.
Writing about this family and their life on an island so much like my beloved Block Island has been about the most fun I've ever had as a writer. Thank you so much for embracing my fictional family and for all the lovely reviews you've posted. I appreciate your e-mails and Facebook posts more than you'll ever know. I always love to hear from readers. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you're not yet on my mailing list, join now for occasional updates on future books.
A special thank you to my friend--and "conference husband"--Mike Myers, who proofread the final version of READY FOR LOVE. All remaining mistakes should be blamed on him. (Just kidding!)
I'm grateful every day to have such wonderful, supportive readers and writing friends who make my life as an author such a joyful journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And as always, to the family that puts up with me and all my eccentricities, you guys are simply the best.

Ready for Love is the third book in the McCarthy’s of Gansett Island series. I have read/listened to the first two books in this delightful series, and now I’m hooked. I just have to find out about the rest of the McCarthys and Gansett Island. Just what I needed, another series to fall in love with! At least I can buy the next three in a bundle, to save a bit of money, but then no audio version for $1.99, decisions, decisions!
Luke Harris has been in love with Sydney Donovan since high school. Sydney went off to college and never looked back, leaving a broken-hearted Luke who has never been able to get over her. When Sydney loses her husband and children in a horrific car crash, she returns to Ganssett Island for the summer to recover from her injuries. Her first summer back, he watches from afar, giving her time to grieve.
The second summer she is there, she speaks to him, letting him know she’s aware that he’s been watching her. Does he dare open his heart to her again? Can Sydney cast off her sorrow and step into the light of Luke’s love, giving them both a second chance?
I thoroughly enjoyed Ready for Love. Luke is a great character, and an outstanding hero with his steadfast heart and quiet demeanor. His willingness to put his love out there for Sydney again, after she apologized for her actions all those years before, touched my soul. It’s refreshing to read of a hero that isn’t a womanizer. Who didn’t let his heart break ruin his life.
Sydney’s character’s devastating loss brought me to tears. Not only did she lose her husband, but her two children as well. Her remorse over how she left Luke without ever telling him it was over was sincere.
Since I listened to the audio version as well as reading this book, I want to mention the narration. Eva Kaminsky reads with a great deal of emotion, helping to pull me into the story. She give the male voice a bit of a raspy quality that helps distinguish them from the female characters. I would have enjoyed it more if she had been able to make each voice unique to the character, but I'm sure that is difficult for many narrators.
Ms. Force’s writing is emotionally-charged, yet without a lot of angst. Her story line is believable and realistic. Her books are about normal, everyday people. It’s about people who make mistakes and learn from them. I loved getting inside the characters heads from the previous three books, and while one would think it would take the focus from Luke and Sydney, it didn’t. I’m so glad I found these great books and can’t wait to read the rest of them in this series. Happy reading!
A little more than a year ago, Sydney Donovan's life was turned upside down when a drunk driver hit her car killing her 2 kids and her husband. She was not only physically broken, but psychologically as well.
Little did Sydney know that Luke Harris, her old high school summer sweetheart, watched her as she dealt with her tragedy. So he's shocked when he's immediately found out the following summer when Sydney comes back to Gansett Island. Luke has never stopped loving Sydney. She may have broken his heart when she never came back to the island, but he never found anyone bump Sydney from that place in his heart.
Finding her a little more like her old self (one who apologized for how she treated him at nineteen), they strike a deal on a friendship. However, that deal only lasts so long when the spark they had when they were teenagers rears it's head to show that it's alive and wanting to explore what might have been. However, they have a few snags they need to deal with while trying to figure out just what they have.
Her parents are still very prejudice against Luke, thinking he is somehow beneath Sydney. Luke, still a little gun shy and wondering if Sydney's going to bolt at the first opportunity, isn't all that forthcoming with what his life is like in Gansett Island (i.e., part owner in the marina and a boat restorer). And then we have Sydney, who is waiting for the other shoe to drop, convinced she has bad karma and that is why her family had been taken away.
Mixed in with all that, we get to meet up again with Joe & Janey, who are weeks away from their wedding, and Mac & Maddie, who are 2 months away from the birth of their child. It was great to see where they are in relation to how we last saw them.
Another great addition to the series. I'm happy that Marie Force will be continuing on the trials and tribulations of the residents of Gansett Island. Next up with be Grant McCarthy's story. I'm wondering though...is his match Abbey or maybe a certain bartender. I'll guess we'll have to wait and see.
