Ready, Set, Find Christmas both tells a simple version of the Christmas story, while aiming to teach children different words as they find the matching picture in the illustration. I appreciate the book includes Scripture references and that it seeks to make learning fun. Sadly for me, the book is a mess. The childlike illustrations are fairly cute, but the objects find are really a problem. The book is aimed at children 4-8, and it seems far too difficult for a child of 4 and too simplistic for an 8-year-old. For example, I don’t know any small children who know what a water vessel is. One of the things to find is a plank that’s part of the door. On the other hand, this book is way too easy for an older child because too many of the pictures repeat. I hate mice and their abundance in children’s books and this book repeated a prominent mouse on four of the six pages. I don’t think that Ready, Set, Find Christmas fits in very well for children of any age
My son likes to turn the chunky tabbed pages and the board book seems fairly sturdy. Alas, the book’s construction is its strongest virtue. I recommend skipping this book and investing in Goodnight, Manger instead.

Ready, Set, Find Christmas is a children’s story and activity book by Zonderkidz. It is a board book, though the pages are a bit thinner and more flexible than some board books. The book has ten pages, and each set of two pages features a brief narrative and picture key on the left-facing page and an illustration on the right-facing page. For example, one left-facing page discusses how Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem to give birth to God’s son, along with a picture key of eight things to find in the illustration on the right-facing page: a lamb, a lizard, a donkey, a bag, a water bottle, a palm tree, a bird, and a shepherd.
The book is designed in a simplistic manner, and would probably be best for 3-year-olds. The characters look like cartoonized clay figures. The sentences are constructed at a very basic level, such as: When Mary and Joseph came to Bethehem, the innkeeper said, “There is no room.” Where would they sleep? The baby would be born soon. He would need a warm place to stay.
The best thing about this book is that it gets children interested in the nativity story, by combining the account of Jesus’ birth with the fun activity of locating pictures in the illustrations.

The pictures are very well illustrated and perfect for little ones to relate to. Along with each illustration is the Bible passage describing the picture, making this a perfect activity for young kids and a great way to teach them about the reason for the holiday. Keeping Christ in Christmas can sometimes be difficult especially with little kids; the excitement of presents and all the decorations can easily be distracted for young minds, adding in a Christ themed activity such as this can be the perfect way to remind them of the true Christmas story.
I would recommend this book for any young child. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift or a great night before Christmas activity.

The numbered, twelve-page board book has rounded corners with sturdy, chunky page tabs for little fingers to grab. Two page spreads include a few sentences about the story, accompanying scriptures and eight pictures of items to find in the colorful illustrations on the opposing page.
Elegantly costumed characters and engaging animals relate the story visually while the story, the items to find and scripture fill are on the left. While on the right, a few sentences unfold the story with scripture references that reinforce the story in addition to the items to find that make his an interactive book for children.
The well-made book is a perfect choice to introduce young children to the Christmas story.
