For Real, was AMAZING. For real!! Charming, clever, sharp, fresh, humorous and completely captivating! I really, truly, completely loved it. I could not believe this book was set to publish in December, and not during summer, as it was such a fantastic, feel-good, summer read! I'm really glad I got to read this book early, it really made my June!

The plot line of For Real revolves around two sisters, Claire and Miranda, joining a reality TV show called Around the World in order to get revenge on the older sister's cheating ex-boyfriend, Samir. Competing in a crazy race around the world is hard, racing with a freshly broken heart and against the one responsible for your heartache is even harder, but can you imagine doing all that on a show that turns out to be a dating show? Pure insanity!

I devoured this book. I could not get enough of the wonderfully captivating writing style, fantastic characters and delicious sense of humor. I loved the twists, I loved the revenge-driven plot line, I loved the hilarious and often times completely crazy tasks the competitors had to face. It was all extremely entertaining. What I loved the most, though, was probably the way Miranda and Claire's relationship was depicted. And the way it changed over the course of this story. They both learned new things - about themselves and each other. They bonded and learned to appreciate one another even more. I loved their sisterly bond!

For Real sports an amazing cast of characters. Claire and Miranda are great - and so very different from each other (and I just adore Claire's snarky inner monologues - they're hysterical!). But they're not the only ones worth mentioning, not by a long shot! Will Divine is, well, divine, and also devilishly clever.Read more ›

For Real was a surprising read, for some reason I didn't think I was going to love it as much as I did. It has to do with family and sisterly bonds, oh and lets not forget reality t.v. This was a fun read I don't know how else to describe it.

Claire and Miranda join a reality t.v. show for revenge against Samir, Miranda's ex-boyfriend who she caught in bed with another girl at her college graduation party. Claire thinks this will be a great way to re-connect with her sister since she feels Miranda doesn't really get her or really knows her anymore since in Miranda's mind Claire is still the little kid she knew before she went off to college.

The story really picked up for me once the reality show aspect of it started. The girls thought they were going to do Amazing Race Around the World instead it ends up being a dating version of the show and they are constantly partnered up with someone of the opposite sex. The sisters end up really getting into it with each other over the course of the show since Miranda is there trying to do everything in her power to avoid being partnered up with Samir and Claire is doing everything she can to stay by Will's side, a boy she met during the casting of the show and poor Claire who claims to be a reality show expert forgets the biggest thing about reality show....that everyone is acting.

It did take me a minute to warm up to Claire since the girl is a little judgey. She assumes things about people based off outer appearances which was a little annoying but luckily there is a lot of character growth on her part in the book which made me like her more and more the further along I read.Read more ›

Can we talk about the cover for a moment? It's pretty. It gives off a very Thirteen vibe. But I think it doesn't do this book justice. Besides two girls, it doesn't tie into this book in any way. I'm a cover person. I will go for a book more because of the cover than the blurb. So I was surprised whenever I read For Real. It was nothing like what I expected because the cover just doesn't work for this story.

Enough digressing from this review. Regardless of the cover, For Real was such a good read. As an only child, it made me feel like I had missed out on having a sister. Romance wasn't the focus for me. The relationship between Miranda and Claire was what I got invested in. At times it was tumultuous and I wanted to shake them both. But by the end of the book, I was over the moon happy to see how Alison Cherry had evolved and shaped their relationship. It was beautiful!

Okay. Much like reality television, which this book relies heavily on, For Real was full of drama and crazy twists and turns. After I got to about fifty percent, all of my ideas about what was going to happen went out the window. I just settled in and enjoyed the plot. And what a doozy it was!

Not only does the relationship between the two sisters grow, the sisters themselves grow. Alison Cherry did an excellent job at development all around with this book. It has made me excited to see what else she writes in the future! If you need a break from the run of the mill YA contemporaries, For Real is an excellent choice!
