Editorial Reviews

Review

"A little bit of humor, a little bit of cynicism, a lot of deep thinking. I especially loved the conversational letters to Hank, artist to artist, pondering little details, had he lived alongside us during these strange times. Also, the poem "I've Found These Things to be True", with its list of truths, in particular: 'Your children will ask for chocolate milk and you'll recognize briefly the face of God.' And then there's the ode to love in "Witness" and the lines: 'Understand as I place this gentle kiss upon your neck ...I simply wish to experience you... to bear witness to something truly magnificent,' and we realize in these pages contain the heart of the matter: the love of another, the love for your children, your family, no matter what shape it takes, is what it really IS all about. The rest of the other stuff around us, scary, real, manufactured, or in our heads... falls away in the light of real, true Love." - tara caribou, taracaribou.com

From the Back Cover

"Throughout the poetry found in Brandon White's second collection weave the themes of an ache established in isolation, the depths of soul-searching, and unexpected humor scratched out of dark places. He ponders raising young children in times of great uncertainty while digging into what it means to be an American during times of unprecedented political turmoil. As such, White holds the unsteady mirror up for all of us, making adjustments to a life in chaos and advancing over the uneasy path of a year swept in pandemic."

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read with real life sentiments captured in raw, poetry form!
By Gabe, Jpham, Karla on September 29, 2021
The author has done it again! He's captured the raw emotions, real life sentiments in his book of poetry. Brandon writes on paper what most Americans are afraid to speak out loud. His courageous perspective makes him an author anyone can relate to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, cover to cover!
By Lacey on July 6, 2021
I read this book on a flight to Hawaii. It was the perfect read, I finished it cover to cover and never put it down. This book captures the time during a pandemic from a personal perspective from someone with a young family and a full time career in the public service industry. You can feel the way he sees life for what it truly is but he hopes for more, not necessarily for himself but for those he cares about and the family he loves so dearly. Definite recommend!
