About the Author
It was October 2008 when I found out. My son was going to be born with a cleft lip and palate. More tests, more abnormalities, and I was filled with questions. How would I feed him? What had I done to cause this? And the question every mother asks: Was he going to be okay?
I decided right then and there, that I was going to take better care of myself and whole family from that moment forward. And so began my search for optimal nutrition. I was determined to find the best way to get myself healthy, but without falling prey to the latest fad diet. I found what I was looking for: real food.
Real food is whole, traditional, completely clean food: egg yolks, butter, vegetables from farmer's markets, raw milk, and even organ meats like liver! My son couldn't get enough butter or cod liver oil the first two years of his life, and he has the healthy immune system to prove it. What I changed in our diets has worked. We are truly nourished.
