Davies, MD, author of The Real House of God - Unleash the Full Power of God’s Spirit Within You.
Davies reminds us that it is impossible to have complete trust in someone you do not know and who you do not have a strong relationship with. The storms of life can drain all hope from you without a trusting person to rely upon.
Davies uses metaphors comparing our three body parts (body, mind, spirit) to a Jewish temple’s outer courtyard, middle room (Holy Place) and inner room (Most Holy Place).
All these metaphors are wonderful examples (along with comparable scriptures and stories) on how to bring the spirit of God into our world.
Davies spends a lot of time reminding us that we do not need to wait before we can meet God in church – we carry Him everywhere we go in our body. Just like Jesus; everywhere He went He took the temple of God with Him.
At the end of many of the chapters (Davies refers to them as sessions) there is support material in the way of Prayers, Questions to Ponder and Prayer Points. The structure Davies uses is helpful to make this book a daily read, and re-read
throughout the year -- or, used for an entire lifetime.
Davies opens our internal emotional wounds by elaborating on in-depth detail of characteristics that hold us hostage in the world.Read more ›
When I say this book is incredibly detailed, I mean it. In all honesty it was a bit hard for me to get through at times; it felt incredibly thick and complicated delving in to the intricacies of the Old Testament temple, what each piece symbolizes, and how our body is of similar "design", if you will, of the Old Testament temple. This book is absolutely phenomenal to increase your understanding of the temple and to appreciate the significance of a physical dwelling place for God. One of my favorite features of every book is when there are additional, thought provoking questions/resources at the end of the chapter or book. This book does indeed have that, and it DID help me digest what I had just read.
I really don't have much to say about this particular book, it's something that you have to read yourself if you want to understand *how* God intends our very body to be a temple for Him. It was really cool to have all the pieces and parts of the temple laid out and explained, but as I said before, it was really thick, this book really needs your undivided attention. I would recommend it solely based on the significance of being able to understand the temple. I don't know that I considerably enjoyed the book, but it is a book I think one should read if they are interested in expanding their knowledge of both the OT and NT temples.Read more ›
Praise is designed to remind you of the full extent of who God is so your perspective of everything in your life changes. When you praise God, you are reminded that He is the most powerful Being, the Creator and ruler of the whole universe, the one who is present everywhere, and yet spends intimate time with you, who is all-knowing and all wise and yet your most ardent lover and best friend. You are reminded that He is your divine healer, your divine lover, and your most vigilant defender. I would highly recommend this book, but know that you have to have your full attention on the book. Keep distractions to a minimum.
If you are like me, and have read through the long, very detailed passages in the Old Testament that talk about the Temple, you found the information hard to digest and the significance of all the layout and items hard to grasp. In this book, Dr Davies, looks piece by piece at each described article and detail of the Temple and he takes the time to explain to the reader what the significance and purpose is meant to be. He also relates corresponding scripture passages and events to further explain the spiritual importance and impact.
More importantly, he provides explanation of how the temple reflects Heaven as the dwelling place of God, and how the temple also reflects the current believer's body as the new Temple and dwelling place of God. He provides significant applications for our spiritual understanding of grace and how to grow deeper in our relationship with God.
I enjoyed reading this book and plan to keep it as a valuable reference source that I will read again. The author is passionate about the subject matter and passionate about providing a resource to help Christians grow in their understanding of God's Word and His purposes for each of us. My rating: 5/5!
