However, the essence here lies in the devotions and their relation to the scriptures. Unlike some devotional Bibles, the devotions are directly tied in with the adjacent scriptures. The devotions are written by members of Proverbs 31 Ministries and one of the end features lists each author's devotions. We're also given each lady's blogs for our viewing.
Certain points are brought out in these devotions that can be missed by many of us. As an instance, the very first devotion points out that the first day of creation started with evening rather than day and the three verses listed at the end of the devotion relate evening with rest and compare the Genesis verse with the rest mentioned in the commandment to keep the Sabbath holy, the "rest in the shadow of the Almighty" referred to in the 91st Psalm, and a time of rest for the disciples mentioned in Mark 6.
Another example is the comparison of the man's leaving father and mother to be united with his wife to Ruth's companionship with mother-in-law Naomi, and to being part of the Christian family as exorted by Paul in Philippians 2:2 and Peter in I Peter 3:8.
And there's the citing of grace being shown in Adam and Eve's exile from the Garden of Eden compared with grace as spoken of by John in his gospel and Paul in Romans and Ephesians.
So this is a marvelous Bible for all women reading this and also would be a great gift for a mother, wife, or daughter.
I have to share that I had just finished reading, Lysa's new book, "Unglued", and I too read the devotional that goes along with it. So, when I seen this Bible listed under Lysa's name, I just assumed the devotionals were written by her. If you haven't read Lysa's books, ladies, run out and grab them up. They are just amazing in every way.
My Bible arrived last week and I have been reading through the devotionals. There are 366 devotionals in order by number not date. Something that I didn't catch when ordering was the fact that these devotionals are written not just by Lysa, but by the Proverbs 31 Ministry ladies. I too adore these women. They write with such passion and purpose. My walk with the Lord has been strengthened by these amazing ladies.
This Bible is gorgeous. The cover is spectacular and most of all it's inviting. In the back of the Bible you will find a list of all the women who participated in writing devotionals and those they have written are found underneath their name. It's a great size for a Bible and the inside detail is very pretty.
Now, with all that said, I am a little disappointed. I know, you didn't want to hear that. But I was so over the top excited to get this one, it was kind of a let down. Maybe I was just expecting more. I would have loved having this Bible when my babies were still at home.Read more ›
This devotional is written with an emphasis toward women. The devotions are written for things we all experience in one way or another, having a relative or friend who has likely gone through some of the scenarios if we ourselves have not - and it is affirming that we all go through both trying experiences and uplifting ones. That God will give us the strength and resources to get through these times, or to help others.
Another plus to this Devotional is that it includes the entire Bible, so if you have a goal of reading the Bible in one year, simply read the pages until you reach the next daily devotional.
You can read the days in order, or you can flip to the back and look at the daily topics, picking a specific one out.
The typeface is similar to most Bibles, with double columns on each page and smallish font size.
