Best source of SAT practice BUT

not the best self-help tool for learning strategies or reviewing math concepts since there are no explanations given for the correct answers. I coach people for this test and if you are looking for self-help materials, I would recommend supplementing this volume with the Kaplan Verbal Workbook and/or Kaplan Math Workbook and/or the Princeton Review Math Workout. If you are weak in math,I'd advise both of the math volumes since they attack the material from different angles. When you have used these to get yourself test ready, use the 10 Real SATS book to practice actual tests (whose Math sections are somewhat easier than these practice books, and whose verbal sections are somewhat harder.) Good luck!

I bought my 10 real book, because it was recommedned to me at an SAT workshop. I will never regret spending the money. Since it gives you 10 real, used before SAT's it is most helpful to the first time test taker to learn the format, mainly the fact that you shouldn't answer every question on the SAT. I took the November 2000 test, and I actually saw an analogy question I had seen before in my 10 Real book. (This is because all SAT questions are recycled). The book also contains strategies. If nothing else, give your friends and family a test you have already practiced with, and let them give it a try to see how smart they are. It will make you feel better. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially a first time tester with at least 2-3 weeks for practice. I have used most of the other SAT prep books, and this is king of the hill, no need buying the others. Good Luck!

While the idea of ten real SATs is great, the first few chapters trying to help people improve their scores is a waste. The methods they use are horribly compared to the ones in Princeton Review's books. What it boils down to is this: if you need to improve your score, then get Princeton Review's Math and Verbal Workouts. If, instead, you just want to brush up and get comfortable with the test, then buy this. Take it from someone who has a best combined score of 1410.

The best way to improve you're score on the SAT is to read this book. It is more than 10 real sats however. It also has chapters on a variety of subjects:

I recommend going over this book and learning how to do do each problem so nothing will be a shock come test day. Even if you get a question wrong don't be frustrated. Just learn how to get the correct answer on that type of question and you will be set for test day.(this strategy is primarily for the math section but works on verbal as well)

I got an 1100 on my first SAT without this book(550V, 550M). After reading this book, using my math strategy, I achieved a 1390 (620V, 770M). This book proved its value.

Required to Increase Your Score

Some students will ace the SAT no matter how little they study. The rest of us are dependent on a myriad of study tools if we intend to get something about 500. That's "10 Real SATs" is required for any high school student.

This book won't bring you from a 700 to an 800. That is more about the last ten years of school, and how good your teachers have been. But it can assist in going from a 600 to a 700, or even a 450 to a 600. Those numbers make a difference between a mediocre college and a top university.

Part of doing well in any test or competition is knowing what's ahead of you. What better way than practice tests? You'll see where your weak areas are, and how long certain questions take you.

For example, when I took the GRE (like the SAT in many ways), I was convinced my best score would come from the verbal portion, and my worst score would come from the math section. The opposite was true. The verbal section took longer for me, as I considered each question thoroughly. Not being a math whiz, I was able to see quickly which question I couldn't answer, and dwelt on the ones I knew. The math section went better because I knew my limitations better, and thus, balanced my time better. You'll learn this kind of thing from taking these tests.

Taking ten SAT tests doesn't seem like fun. It isn't. But if you are serious about increasing your score, and have the fortitude, buy this book and break out a fresh pack of #2 pencils.

I fully recommend "10 Real SATs." You'll take the SAT with more confidence and better results.

By far the most important book to buy!!

You simply CANNOT prepare for the SAT I without this book; I use it as the core for my SAT I test prep class.
There is no substitute for official test questions, no matter which test you are taking. This book is the *only* book on the market that has them, and many of these questions are from recent tests; two are from 2000.
The book includes some strategies, answers, and score conversion tables; whatever score you get on these tests is your TRUE score. Don't rely on your scores from other books, trust me.
This book, however, doesn't give explanations for the questions, so you'll need to figure them out yourself or ask a teacher, but still, this book is fantastic!
Good luck on your test and order this book!
