Although majority of Melissa Foster’s books are under the umbrella of her Love in Bloom series on a larger scale, it’s always said they can work as standalone books. Personally, I don’t always feel that’s the case and always recommend people read the whole series to get the real depth of each book. In the case of this book, it’s not under that Love in Bloom umbrella. There is an extremely brief mention in passing here and there of a few characters, but there is absolutely no significance to the story. This is a brand-new series (published under a totally different publisher that her other books) and, since this one is the first of the series, can be read as a standalone.
We get to know a lot of characters in this book. Not in-depth, but enough to keep the reader wanting more. Of course, all of Willow’s siblings will be getting their stories told. The family is loving and caring and all very different from one another so it should be a lot of fun.
This story moves fast and a lot happens over the course of the 2 weeks the majority of the tale takes place. You would think it would make the romance/love story part of the book seem too fast but it doesn’t. Mostly because Zane and Willow have known each other most of their lives. But it did make some other things seem quite a bit beyond the realistic realm. I love that Willow owns a bakery and does some catering. But the amount of time she spends actually working, with no other people in her employ, is beyond ridiculous. And Zane’s bodyguards, plane, and ease of getting people to stop gawking around the bakery is laughable. I’ll forgive these things because wanted to read about the couple and not all of the day-to-day particulars. But it left me feeling as though I was missing something.
One last thing. It’s inevitable, if you read a lot of books, that character names will end up being used by more than one author. I’m sure it may have happened to me before but the characters weren’t engrained in my mind enough for me to notice. But since I absolutely LOVE the Walker brothers from Nicole Edwards’ Alluring Indulgence series, I could help but instantly notice the shared moniker of Zane Walker. Two totally different men in so many ways, but both great guys.
Willow owns a bakery in a town in upstate New York and has a wonderful opportunity to expand her catering business when she is summoned to a resort for an interview… or so she thinks!
Zane is an actor who stars in action movies and just happens to be the best friend of Willow’s brother, Ben, and is the man who was her first love and lover. He has manipulated Willow into thinking she has a potential job as a ruse to get to see her and to convince her to pose as his fake fiancé. He is starring in a romantic role and his producer feels he needs to clean up his playboy image by getting involved in a serious relationship... thus the fake fiance ruse is born.
The cream puff hits the fan so to speak when she finds out there is no catering job on the line and that Zane is behind the ruse. You see, they have been frenemies since their one night together so convincing her family and their friends that they are engaged is going to be a tough job.
Zane is very clear about his feelings toward Willow but she struggles to trust him and her feelings. They belong together but take their sweet time in realizing that!
The story was well written with just the right blend of heat and sweet romance. I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next in the series.
From the get-go, this story has it all. Sweet sass and humor laced with undoubtedly the best dates and wooing I've read in a long while. (Well, ok, maybe not a long while. probably since the last Melissa Foster book, because this woman rocks at this!)
Willow just rocks her curvy, spunky self and Zane pretty much does everything in his power and pulls out all the stops to make her his! For real this time-they're getting married even! At least that's what they're trying to have people believe. And it's going pretty good until the line between fake and real blur to a point where there isn't even a line anymore. There's only Zane and Willow. And it IS The Real Thing.
I loved this story so hard. It's fun, flirty, emotional, and so full of sweetness. You want this one, you know you do. Just as much as that jelly-filled goodie on the top shelf. 😘
The main characters Willow and Zane grew up together in a small town. As they grow older Zane leaves town to peruse his dreams of acting. With him being away their relationship changes. They have always had feelings for each other but they changed once he moved. With Zane back now so he can clean up his act to get different roles he wants Willow to be his fake fiancé.
The more time they spend together in their fake engagement the more they realize they have true feelings for each other. The only question is will Zane be able to convince Willow to give them a real chance?
I’m not going to give anything away so you’ll have to read it yourself. This was a great start to a new series. The perfect light hearted romance that’s told in both point of views.
