Two guys with terrible communication skills, trust issues, and family issues DON'T get a fluffy HEA. So thank you for making these boys work for it. Not only in Off Campus, but Real World. Like, really, real world. They fo sho deserve it, but the best relationships, the strongest, have a trial by fire.
I'm SO glad I got to see their life down the track. Normally in a series like this, you see it vicariously through someone else's story, which is FINE, even great sometimes, but this? You gave me that liiittle bit more everyone always wants after an amazing story. I didn't want to see this vicariously through Rafi, or Cash, or Jack. I wanted this through Tom and Reese. You didn't give me a fluffball with no plot, and you didn't give me pointless angst, with an endgame of fluffball. You gave me the same old story, yet a whole new story. You did it without gimmick.
My shelves: mm-magic, favourite-author, re-read, work-for-it, mm-naughty, 2015-release, five-star, where-have-you-been, angsty, flirt-no-cheat, boy-on-boy, old-favourites
EDIT: I highlighted about 30 locations, but this tickled my real world fancy - "Reese sat up and pulled off his shirt, flinging it across the room to their 'I'm going to put this in laundry bin, I swear' chair, where the shirt slowly slid to the floor."
As in any relationship, there are times where the tensions and problems you have get bottled up. Your significant other doesn't have the time or you don't have the words. For Tom and Reese, they clearly are committed to each other. However, words not spoken are creating a huge crevasse in their relationship. Will they make it or will temptation be too much?
"God, please let it be an almost."
If you read my review for Off Campus, you know I love these boys. It's clearly a toss up between Off Campus and The Girl Next Door as my favorite. But, Amy Jo Cousins offers us a four year glimpse at their relationship showing how far they have come or not. One of the things that I sometimes dislike with follow up novels is that they are a little too neat or tie everything is bow. Ms. Cousins gives us a real relationship struggle, ability to communicate, that keeps you engaged in the story. And when they let their bodies do the talking - Whoa HOT!!
Although Real World clearly could be a standalone, I don't recommend it. Because I think you really need to understand the start of their relationship to get the full appreciation of their continued commitment. Do you need to read the other books in the series? No. Bonus you get more Cash and Steph in this book. But WHY NOT? I recommend you BUY ALL THE BOOKS. 5 HEA stars out of 5.
I didn't want certain things to happen but I knew they had to happen for them to move forward and have a new beginning. And that's what they're working towards in this novella. I felt every moment and I rooted for them in a new way. I rooted for them to have a forever. To be strong enough to work through the ups and downs in a relationship so that their future is set and that through all the romance, there is true love and a legitimate future.
Amy Jo Cousins executes this amazing story in a short, sweet, and sexy as hell package. She even gives you tiny cameos of your favorite Bend or Break Series couples to further make your life complete. I am so very satisfied. Amy is absolutely a blind one click for me and this novella proves the reasoning behind that in spades.
