About the Author

DR. FRED JOHNSON is the results-oriented founder and CEO of InitiativeOne, Institute of Business Leadership. Founded in 1999, InitiativeOne is a leadership firm specializing in the development of an organization s most important and only sustainable resource, its people. He and his staff inspire cultural change within an organization by focusing on and improving the behaviors of the organization s key leaders. While pastoring four churches for nearly two decades, Dr. Johnson developed a proprietary model demonstrating a pattern of how people respond to change, both positively and negatively. After training other pastors to be more effective leaders, word soon spread to other corporate leaders and he began to address their leadership teams on how to effectively lead positive change. This second book in their series on explaining change and personal development for organizations, “The Reality of Change” does a great job of explaining why people are reluctant to change, which is important for a change leader to understand, as well as how to “work” a person to get past those reluctancies. By extension, you begin to put together what is needed to truly move an organization through the emotions of the change process. When you can “work” the emotions, you can truly move a person to the next spot. Until then, you don’t. This book provides insights into how to understand what's going on, and to deal with it. I look forward to a subsequent book that explains how to move larger groups of people, organizations!

Enjoyable but full of useful content! In his usual way, Fred Johnson 'speaks to you' in a way that makes you wonder if he is 'in your head'! In this high-tech era, things change leagues faster than they did in prior times. This book encourages us.... actually requires us to look at change differently in order that we not be left behind, mourning what might have been!

Every leader needs this book in her/his leadership library. Practical, insightful, and helpful insights into how one can lead change is what The Reality of Change offers. It's rare that one can find an "easy" read that is so impactful in application but this book offers that. Take these principles and apply them and your leadership will go to a whole new level. I purchased 100 copies to give to my fellow leaders. This one will be a classic!
