My first-grade daughter enjoys this curriculum. Each week focuses on one Scripture verse, most often from Psalms or Proverbs. The student traces then copies a few words on each of the first three days of the week. On the fourth day, the student writes the entire verse on practice paper. The last day of the week, the student gets to choose a special "border sheet" on which they will write the verse and color the pictures. They are encouraged to do their best work and can give the border sheet away. My daughter wakes up on Friday and says, "It's border sheet day!" You can use this curriculum in conjunction with A Reason for Spelling, as the verse for each week is the same. We will be continuing with the next level of this curriculum for second grade.

This is a great book for basic handwriting. It is organized so that your child can do it themselves without your help. My kids think it is fun to do too.

We have been using the "A Reason for.." books with all of our children, number 9 is starting the Pre-K book. The K book has matching pages to help a young child learn the Big and little letters. It also has a page and a coloring sheet for each letter that can be pulled out. The older books have pages that can be pulled out to use for copy work. We color these and hang them up. The lessons are VERY short and get longer as the child moves up books. We have found that this keeps the child interested and handwriting not boring. However, most of my children like to just do a whole weeks worth of work in one setting.

I love this book! It's motivating for my 4 1/2 daughter! She works on a few words each day, then Thursday traces the whole scripture, then on Friday picks a boarder page to color and then writes the whole verse out on it byherself. She especially loves that she gets to pick someone to give it to. I highly recommend this book! Very Pleased!

Using this with our 5, going on 6 year old son, I have LOVED this book and so has he. The book starts with 30 lessons (each a page long) of practicing letters, two on each page, followed by two different words that include those letters. There are three lines for each letter and two lines for each word so plenty of practice space provided. Following those 30 "introductory" lessons, the child is then ready to go onto writing and learning a verse from the Bible. Now each weekly lesson is divided into 4 lessons. Having practiced the different words for 3 days, on the 4th day the child is asked to trace over the complete verse. My only gripe on the 4th day is that there is no space for them to write out the verse by themselves!

Completing one page a day, our son has been able to work on this independently for the most part which has been great training for him. Highly recommended! 4.5 stars

My 5 year old daughter is using this book while her 7 year old brother is using book B, both starting the program this year. We have already seen great improvement in both children's writing and my daughter has only completed the first 9 practice lessons! I will say though that the practice lessons in the beginning of the book are to long. When I realized this I cut the lessons in half and they are much easier for her to complete in a timely fashion. Also I think there are way to many practice lessons, so I have let her start decorating border sheets (explained below) to fill in and give away. Maybe if her brother wasn't doing this already in book B then we would have waited, but she was so excited to do it like him and I bought an extra book of sheets anyway.
The book starts with 30 practice lesson then takes the student through a focus Bible verse practicing a little bit 4 days a week the 5th day decorating a border sheet then using your best handwriting write the verse on the border sheet. Once complete give it away to some one. They are having fun giving their work away to friends and family!
By the way my son is passed the practice lessons (there are less practice lessons) in book B and on week 2 of regular lessons and has majorly improved his hand writing and has almost stopped writing in all capital letters. Yah! I am so glad that I am starting my daughter in book A so that I do not have to fight the same battles with her as I did with my son.
I would have given this book 5 stars, but at a beginner level the first 30 practice lessons are too long and should have been cut in half, but this is easy enough for you to do yourself.

I have used this series for my oldest daughter for four years and am starting my Kindergarten homeschooler with the Level A book...I saw the lower book had no scripture and opted up a level. It is easily doable for a five year old and she loves it; I copied the number practice page and she asks to do it frequently---this is a very active, kinesthetic learner who has trouble sitting still. Five stars to the whole program--we LOVE it!!!
