About the Author
Rebecca was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, but enjoys a rich family heritage, horses, rodeos, and cowboys from Texas! She is a self-advocate artist and speaker who has Down syndrome. Growing up in a big home school family with two brothers, two sisters and one foster brother with Down syndrome, she had a lot of fun. Now, she and her siblings are all grown up! They all have dreams that they follow and she is no different. She has her own business called “Livin My Dreams”. She has an art studio at home in Nampa. She works doing her art everyday. She is a Self-Advocate Speaker and she travels with her mom to talk about Livin My Dreams and Self Determination. She has spoken to crowds as large as 1200 people at a Buddy Walk to small groups of 4-H girls, she loves speaking! Rebecca has lived on her own in a trailer on her mom’s property and loves being independent! She now shares a home with her mom where she has her own small apartment. She is livin her dream. Rebecca is active in the Disability Community. She has been on the board of the Treasure Valley Down Syndrome Association in Boise as a self advocate speaker and the leader of the adult group. In Texas, she helped to start a new Down syndrome support group in West Texas, and was on the board of the Gathering Place, a community center for people with disabilities where she helped with the social events. She loves helping people to live their dreams. Some of her accomplishments include: Silver medals in Downhill skiing in the Idaho Special Olympics, a Green belt in Kenpo Karate and most recently, she earned the Gold Congressional Medal of Honor. After going to Washington DC to receive her medal, she was invited to the Texas statehouse by Congressman Pete Sessions and given a special proclamation for her work in Alpine.
