Rebecca's Song focuses on Rebecca Hoyt. She is the teacher in Riverton and has really matured and spent time rebuilding herself. She used to be self centered and because of that she did hurtful things, but she has matured and is a new person. She is devastated to learn her best friend and her husband were killed in a train robbery. Her best friend leaves behind three small children that are her students. Rebecca steps in to provide temporary care for the children. She knows the children's uncle is coming and he is their new guardian. What she does not expect is for their uncle to be handsome Detective Jesse Rand. Jesse is in mourning over the loss of his sister and her husband. He is grateful for the care the beautiful Rebecca is providing for his niece and nephews. Jesse is also determined to find the killers and bring them to justice. Jesse and Rebecca work together to help the children heal and to provide for their needs. While working so closely together, the two begin to have feelings for one another. But Jesse lives in Chicago and that is where his job is. Rebecca hopes Jesse will set up a home in Riverton.
Things change when relatives of the children's father come and make an offer to take the children into their home. They are a loving couple that is unable to have children. Jesse has to decide what is best for the children.
Rebecca is also fighting a battle to keep her teaching position. She has a student that has challenged her and the school board is not pleased with how she is handling it. When Jesse leaves and takes the children with him, Rebecca feels things cannot possibly get any worse for her, but they do. Jesse also struggles with the decision he has made concerning the children and he cannot keep Rebecca out of his mind.
The book is a must read that will really have you pulling for the couple and the children. You get to see the characters develop and learn what is really important to them. You also get to read the action that happens when the killers attack again.
There are several twist and turns with some mystery, romance and every day life.
Will Jessie and Rebecca finally figure out that God really does care and that he has a plan for their lives? Rebecca’s faith shines through her life but there is an issue that she’s scared to totally surrender to God. Will her problem keep a man from wanting to marry her? Will she get so close to these kids that she can barely stand to think about their Uncle Jessie taking them away?
If you like a clean interesting book you will like this one. It really is a great book!
An unlikable character in the first story, Kinzer has done a magnificent job redeeming Rebecca Hoyt. I found myself liking this character more and more. I confess, she has become my favorite.
Jesse Rand was an excellent addition to Rebecca's world. His struggles to find his way in uncharted waters of family life struck a chord with this reader's heart.
Kinzer did a brilliant job including and describing the children in her story. Their actions and reactions to their loss were believable and heart-rending.
All the previous main characters in this series are included giving the reader a closer look at their stories making Rebecca's Song a must-read for 2018.
I highly recommend this series to the fans of When Calls the Heart, Christy, Little House on the Prairie, and Anne of Green Gables.
