I have patiently waited for Penna/Rebel's book from the beginning because I knew there was more to the strong and fiery firecracker we saw in Wilder and Nova. After the first couple of pages where we meet Cruz and Penna I just knew this author was going to end this series on bang because that is exactly what Cruz and Penna delivered. Their banter was fiery and their attraction just as combustible. He was the perfect Alpha to her sassy Renegade. I could not get enough of them.
GAHHHH. This book was everything. YES IT DESERVES TO BE REPEATED. EVERYTHING!!! I laughed, I cried and I wanted to throw them both (along with my kindle out of the window at times) because my frustration level was to the roof. I was hooked on every word and emotion as it was so amazing to see the usually strong and confident Rebel (to the world and her brothers) needing a shoulder to cry and lean on. I absolutely fell in love with Cruz at first sight and was enamored with the way he saw the vulnerable woman inside looking to find herself again. She was his weakness and as a result, he would do anything for her!!
All in all this was an amazing conclusion to the series and I once again bow down to the greatness of this author. She can do no wrong and always delivers on ALL levels. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
Rebel had survived a freak accident caused by her sister and was still reeling from the injury and betrayal. The rest of the Renegades were in Aspen competing in the XGames, where she should have been. But she had to prove to herself that she could be herself again and BASE jumping in Vegas was a start.
Cruz was in Vegas for a quick trip before he started his career as a Professor. In the meantime, he met the beautiful Penelope. He got more than he bargained for with a night filled with too much excitement and one he wouldn’t forget.
They thought they wouldn’t see each other again until Penelope aka Penna aka Rebel, shows up in his classroom. Yarros then built the storyline around the forbidden relationship. She also weaved a few secondary stories into the main storyline for additional depth and dimension.
It was well written and well developed mixed in with enough action to keep it flowing and interesting. The only drawback was that it lagged some in the middle and could have been a little shorter without losing the depth and complexity. Yarros did, however, include all of the Renegades as a pertinent part of the plot, allowing us to continue to experience the bond of deep friendships and loyalty.
The epilogue was perfect allowing us to see enough into the future to successfully experience the Renegades forever love. However, we didn’t get Nick’s story yet, so I’m not sure if the Renegades series is ending or if we’ll be gifted with at least one more. My hope.....Nick’s story. And soon.
As for Penna I freaking adored her. I love that she was such a kickass chick but she was also soft and girly but no one saw that side of her except for Cruz. I loved that she was so spunky and no matter what she didn't give up.
These two together was explosive and you couldn't deny that they had chemistry that jumped off the page. From their first meeting I couldn't get enough of them together and kept turning the pages waiting for them to finally give in to their attraction. Seriously, loved them together.
This was a winner for me across the board. Everything that I love about a romance novel this book had. Swoony sexy hero? Check! Kickass heroine? Check! Great cast of characters? Check! Left me wanting more? Check! Rebel is one of my favorite reads of 2017 and I'm sad that there won't be more to this series because I think it was amazing and Rebecca Yarros outdid herself with it. Truly one of my favorite reads and I can't wait to see what's next for this author.
I really liked Cruz and Penna, and I liked that Penna found someone who was almost as adventurous as she is. I loved the connection they had from the first moment they met, and how they both tried—and failed—to fight that connection when they discovered that Cruz was the new professor in Penna’s class.
While I did enjoy REBEL, I felt that most of the story moved a little slow for me, at least until Cruz left the ship. Prior to that, a lot of the story was focused on Penna. Penna trying to recover mentally from her sister’s near-deadly actions from the first book. Penna trying to get her confidence back. Penna getting ready for her world-record trick. After Cruz left the ship, the story moved a lot faster, which was good but was also a bit of a shame because that’s where most of the action happened.
REBEL is told in dual POVs and while it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. This is the final book in The Renegades series, and as such, we were gifted with a beautiful epilogue that takes place five years into the future and gives fans a glimpse of what’s been happening in the lives of the Renegades. It was a perfect ending.
