I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
There's another seduction taking place, and Sunita falls for it. A fellow University employee Alex, who has a history of working for a government security/spy/'The Company' agency, just as she does, steals her heart. And she steals his.
There's a lot of intrigue through out the book. Laura, Alex's ex, another Company employee, is a primary player and she's not to be trusted IMHO.
Sunita and Alex eventually find a way to get a HEA but their means of arriving there are a big surprise.
I received an ARC of this book am am independently providing this review.
Just when you think you got the book,, it throws a twist in there to mess up the groove. Loved it with all it twists and turns all for the name of love.
Alex Mitchell is the Deputy Head of Systems Administration of the University. His life was quiet and he had a love. But she broke his heart. Now when he isn't in meetings or other he thinks back to when he was in the service. A couple years back he worked for the Company. That went between the lines of security and the good of the people. He thought he was done with all that until he was called up by a fellow colleague that he was needed once again for service. What he finds out next is that once your in the Company your always in the Company. Retired or not. But can he still do his job with all his troubles and a new woman on his mind?
Dr. Sunita Chakravarti is the lead researcher in trying to develope a artificial immune system that can provide target protection against biological and terrorism warfare. Only when she was pretty sure Alex was a sleeper agent. When coming to him to just talk and have coffee did she begin to fall in love with him somewhere down the line. After learning about his breakup and easy going manner. She didn't care that he could be a sleeper. She even went as far to tell him some troubles she had with a harassing benefactor that she kept refusing.... Then she disappears.
It's a race against time to find Sunita before the other Company members. No one believes she could be there against her will. Because things continue to crop up in the case. But if Mitchell can get there in time and ask her. Will he protect her either way?
And then you get a peek beneath the calm surface, where agents of agencies more secret than the official secret agencies are conducting their convoluted business. All of a sudden things get nasty. A sociopathic businessman/polititian turns to kidnapping to get his hands on top secret research for his own gain and in between all the players with different agendas a love story between two unlikely people developes.
But until they get their HEA they have to jump through some pretty scary hoops.
And even then you get the feeling it might not be absolutely certain that it stays that way.
