About the Author

George J. Tenet was the second-longest-serving Director of Central Intelligence in U.S. history, leading the CIA and Intelligence Community from 1997 to 2004. He was Deputy Director of Central Intelligence from 1995 to 1997 and prior to that Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Intelligence Programs at the National Security Council and Staff Director of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He is the author of the number-one New York Times bestseller At the Center of the Storm.

Porter J. Goss was a Member of Congress from 1989 until 2004, at which time he became the Director of Central Intelligence. He served as a member of the CIA's clandestine service from 1962 to 1972.

Mike Hayden is a retired Air Force general and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. He is currently a principal at the Chertoff Group and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Mason University. He is the author of the upcoming Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror, a memoir of his time on the national intelligence scene.

John McLaughlin capped a thirty-two-year career at CIA by serving as its Deputy Director from 2000 to 2004 and as Acting Director in the latter part of 2004. During his career he worked on nearly every part of the world, briefed four American Presidents, and frequently represented the Intelligence Community on diplomatic delegations abroad. He teaches at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, publishes frequent assessments of foreign affairs, and is Chairman of the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the families of CIA officers who die in the line of duty.

Philip Mudd served as Deputy Director of the CIA's Counterterrorist Center and then Senior Intelligence Adviser at the FBI. He joined the CIA in 1985 and spent his career analyzing the Middle East and South Asia, with a particular focus on terrorism. He comments frequently on national security matters and is the author of The HEAD Game (Liveright Press, 2015).



Jose A. Rodriguez Jr. is a thirty-one-year veteran of the CIA. He served as Chief of CIA's Counterterrorism Center and Director of the National Clandestine Service. His book Hard Measures: How Aggressive CIA Actions after 9/11 Saved American Lives was published in 2012.
